This Portable Console by PGS Labs Promises To Deliver PC Gaming In Your Pocket
PGS Labs is working on a portable gaming console, called PGS (Portable Gaming System). This Portable Console by PGS Labs promises to deliver PC Gaming in your pocket. Well, the interesting thing is that this little console runs PC version of Microsoft’s latest OS, Windows 10. This allows you to take your PC games anywhere with you.
The Kickstarter campaign of this revolutionary device by PGS Labs has already raised over $155,000; the goal was to reach $100,000. And the fascinating thing is that the campaign still has 27 days left.
Here’s a promo of the PGS:
Dual-Boot with Android 6.0 & Windows 10 and Streaming Capability:
The PGS is a like a hybrid of Motorola’s Moto series smartphones and the Nintendo DS. The PGS will have dual-boot system and it may double as a smartphone too. PGS Labs promise to bring cellular functions like receiving calls to the PGS if the campaign makes more than $400,000. It will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Windows 10 Home Basic. The PGS also allows for streaming from PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Talking about the specs of the device, it packs quite a punch. It’ll come with a Quad HD (2560×1440) 5.7″ display with an Intel Atom X7 Quad-Core processor clocked at 2.56GHz. With 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD, the PGS is capable of handling latest PC titles. It will also come with an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera along with a secondary 4.5″ display. The battery is no slouch either, the PGS will pack a 6120mAh battery to power the quad-core Intel processor.
PGS will also support storage-expansion and USB 3.0. MicroHDMI is also supported. The cheaper variant, the PGS Lite, will have less-powerful specs. It will feature 4GB RAM and a low-resolution HD 720p display. Also, the PGS is passively cooled and it features 5-channel audio which will deliver immersive acoustic experience.
The PGS comes in two versions:
- PGS Lite. (Cheaper and less powerful specs)
- PGS Hardcore. (Fully equipped version)
PGS in action! | PGS Prototype Test Video:
PGS Labs has already constructed a prototype of the PGS. They’ve tested games like Dark Souls 2, Devil May Cry, Mirror’s Edge, Batman: Arkham City and MGS: Revengeance. Here, take a look at the video:
Release Date Info
PGS Labs has planned to ship the console to backers in March 2017. The world-wide release of the console will also be around the same time.
“We are developing PGS during last two years. Engineers from Japan, China and Russia are actively working on the development of it.”
Well, this project from PGS Labs is great. If it gives good performance in games, I would definitely get one. Judging from the pace of the campaign, I think PGS Labs could raise $400,000 or more. And if that milestone is achieved, as promised, we will see this console double up as a smartphone too. The project looks great, but it could struggle running latest AAA titles. But still, for a little device like this, I think its pretty good.
How the PGS performs in latest games is still unknown. We will see more when it launches in March next year. We just have to wait till then. For more news, keep it locked on GeeksULTD.
