After the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, rumors about the upcoming flagship OnePlus smartphone started bouncing around the internet. Today, OnePlus has confirmed to The Verge that their upcoming flagship smartphone is going to be called the “OnePlus 5”. The company also said that the OnePlus 5 will hit the markets this summer, sometime in June and August.
Now you might be wondering, why OnePlus didn’t call their upcoming smartphone OnePlus 4? The successor to the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T should be called OnePlus 4, right? Well, OnePlus is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer. In China, many people believe that number “4” means death. That is why OnePlus named their upcoming smartphone OnePlus 5 and skipped the four.
OnePlus didn’t reveal the specifications of the upcoming device. However, it is speculated that the upcoming OnePlus 5 will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset, 6 to 8 Gigabytes of RAM and over 128 gigabytes of storage capacity. Rumors also suggest that the phone will have 23MP dual camera sensors.
