MSI Celebrates Their 30th Anniversary With Their New Nvidia Pascal Notebook Lineup

With MSI’s 30th Birthday being celebrated with pride, the company has made some accomplishments recently. Taking 1st place in the Gaming Notebook Market Share (source), the company has felt the urge to bring their new notebooks to the mainstream with Nvidia’s new Pascal Lineup of GPUs. And now it’s about time.

On the 16th of August, 2016, Kuala Lumpur, MSI announced their new lineup of gaming notebooks, featuring not only improvements in the graphics department, but also in thermals and aesthetics. MSI has updated their GT, GS and GE series of notebooks for those looking for something to suit their needs accordingly. The complete lineup of gaming notebooks MSI showcased were actually MXM Graphics Cards which actually perform the same as their full desktop family, although, the performance slightly varies due to thermal temperatures. Let’s boil them down, shall we?

MSI GT83VR Titan SLI- The New Top DogMSI 30th Anniversary Launch15

It was pretty evident that the mayhem of performance on notebooks isn’t going to be left behind. Thanks to Nvidia’s MXM GPUs the GT83VR Titan SLI comes with Nvidia’s GTX 1080 or GTX 1070s in SLI. Additionally, both notebooks have been revamped in the cooling department with MSI tweaking quite a bit in the thermals department to keep these bad boys tame.

The GT83VR Titan SLI carries quite a unique design, similar to its predecessor. You will find the usual Cherry MX Mechanical Keyboard, hybrid touch/numpad and a similar layout. Under the hood, the MSI GT83VR Titan SLI packs the following configuration:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-6820HK
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 SLI
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4 RAM
  • HDD & SSD: 1TB 7200RPM HDD & 512GB M.2 SSD
  • Display: 18.4-inch Full HD IPS Display

The MSI GT83VR Titan is ready for anything you throw at it. The MSI GT83VR Titan SLI comes with a price tag of RM20,999 for the GTX 1080 SLI configuration and is now available to purchase in Malaysia.

MSI GT73VR Titan – Still Hardcore, but 4kMSI 30th Anniversary Launch20

The MSI GT73 Titan could be considered a cut-down version of the bigger GT83VR Titan SLI. As you may have noticed, the MSI GT73VR Titan is missing the “SLI” from its name. The new GT73VR Titan comes with a single beastly GTX 1080 or 1070 along with a variation in the processors as well.MSI 30th Anniversary Launch18

The base MSI GT73VR Titan comes in the following configuration:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7 6700HQ
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4 RAM
  • HDD & SSD: 1TB HDD & 256GB M.2 SSD
  • Display: 17.3-inch Full HD IPS Display @120Hz/5ms

Meanwhile, the higher-end varaint, the MSI GT73VR Pro comes with the real head-turner. Equipped with the latest Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080, the MSI GT73VR Pro comes with an equally high-end display, featuring an IPS 120Hz/5m 1080p/4k display to take full advantage of that GTX 1080 in there.

Note: Only the 1080p model supports 120Hz refresh rate.

Both the base GT73VR Titan and the GT73VR Titan Pro come with multi-color backlit keyboard, Thunderbolt 3 port, Matrix Display Support and more than enough USB 3.0 ports.

The MSI GT73VR Titan Pro comes in the following configuration:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7 6820HK
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4 RAM
  • HDD & SSD: 1TB 7200RPM HDD & 512GB M.2 SSD
  • Display” 17.3-inch 4k IPS Display

MSI GS73VR Stealth Pro – 4k Gone Truly Stealth!MSI 30th Anniversary Launch22

The MSI GS73VR Stealth Pro is no slouch in performance for a thin gaming laptop. The MSI GS73VR Stealth Pro comes with some decently powerful hardware. The MSI GS73 Stealth Pro utilizes Nvidia’s new GeForce GTX 1060. Amazingly, in such a thin chassis, MSI explained how they managed to cool such a such in such a thin chassis. Quite obviously fans were used, but, in fact not one, not two, but three fans have been built into the MSI GS73 Pro with each fan equipped with 41 fan blades which MSI calls their Cooler Boost Trinity Technology.

The MSI GS73 Stealth Pro comes in the following configuration:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-6700HQ
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4
  • HDD & SSD: 1TB HDD & 256GB M.2 SSD
  • Display: 17.3-inch 4k IPS Display

Coming over to the pricing, the MSI GS73 Stealth Pro really has an attractive price tag, especially considering it’s bigger brothers who have the highest end internals. In fact, considering the GTX 1060 in the GS73 Stealth Pro combined with a 4k screen in such a thin form factor, it seems pretty promising. The GS73 Stealth Pro will set you back RM9,999.

MSI GE72VR/GE62VR Apache Pro – The Revamped EntryMSI 30th Anniversary Launch25

While the GS series of MSI’s notebooks focus on providing stealth in a thin chassis, the GE series try to provide something more economic for the consumer. The GE72VR Apache Pro and GE62VR Apache Pro aim to bring similar configurations to a lower cost. Since the GE series is focused at providing the best bang for the buck MSI could provide, we saw quite an impressive notebook here that didn’t compromise on hardware as its bigger brothers.MSI 30th Anniversary Launch24

The MSI GE72VR Apache Pro comes in the following configuration:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-6700HQ
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
  • RAM: 8GB DDR4
  • HDD & SSD: 1TB HDD & 256GB M.2 SSD
  • Display: 17.3-inch Full HD Display

While the GE72VR Apache Pro comes with economy in mind, there’s not much of a cut down here. The MSI GE72VR Aapache Pro comes with the same Steel Series Multi-Color Backlit Keybord with the RAM count cut down to 8GB which is still pretty respectable for gaming, even today.

Pricing Structure

While the GT, GS and GE took the stage at MSI’s event, some notebooks weren’t shown off at the demo, due to the limited size of the event MSI told us. Anyways, here’s some of the notebooks that were and weren’t mentioned above.
