Hackers are a big threat to the internet community. Previously, several popular YouTube channels such as LinusTechTips, Boogie, and h3h3productions almost got hacked. Last night, popular Twitter accounts including @PlayStation, @XboxSupport, @Shazam and more got hacked.
Xbox, PlayStation, and Other Well-Known Twitter Accounts Hacked
Twitter Counter (@TheCounter) has confirmed that the accounts got compromised. In a tweet, they said:
“We can confirm that our service has been hacked; allowing posts on behalf of our users! We have launched an investigation into this matter.”
Other popular accounts also got targeted by this including world-class footballer Lionel Messi, actor Charlie Sheen, ICRC, Viacom and more. The number of accounts targeted by this attack is still unknown but it is clear that it is targeting popular Twitter accounts.
After the hack, the accounts started posting spam links. Here’s a photo by Engadget:
Twitter Counter later confirmed that the attackers are no longer able to post the spam links. The matter is still under investigation. And yes, if you’re a Twitter Counter user, we recommend you to change your password.
“As of now, the hackers CANNOT post on our users’ behalf anymore. We will keep you posted on any other updates!”
