Sniper Elite 4 Review: Worth A Sequel?

Sniper Elite 4 is the latest installment in the Sniper Elite series. Developed by Rebellion Developments, the game was officially launched on Valentine’s Day (14 February) 2017. Sniper Elite 4 is a unique third-person shooter game. People who like to play as a sniper will really like Sniper Elite series, especially the latest “Sniper Elite 4”. It is available on all major platforms i.e. PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Sniper Elite 4 is set in the era of World War II, in 1943 Italy, to be exact. The game continues the story of Sniper Elite 3. The protagonist, Karl Fairburne, is sent to San Celini island to assassinate General Tobias Schmidt and several other officers.

The story is pretty good for a game of this type. It will keep you hooked throughout the game.

Gameplay

Sniper Elite 4 is improved in many good ways over its predecessor. Just like the last installment, Sniper Elite 4 also features the awesome X-ray kill cam which shows the bullet of your sniper hitting the enemy in an X-ray view, showing organs getting ruptured by the bullet. However, in Sniper Elite 4, the kill cam is improved. It will now also show shrapnel kills, melee kills and stealth kills.

The AI in Sniper Elite 4 has also greatly improved. The enemies will look for you if they find a dead soldier. The game also has special enemies like “officers”. If you kill an officer initially into the mission, the enemy forces will retreat, making the objective easy to achieve. Also, if the officer is not killed early into the mission, achieving the objective will be much harder.

Sniper Elite 4 is really advanced, tactically. The player can make booby traps using the enemy’s dead bodies. The player is also equipped with binoculars. Sniper Elite 4 also has missions that take place at night. These type of missions are even more stealthy, as you’ll need to disable light sources to hide from enemies. Unlike Sniper Elite 3, Sniper Elite 4 has bigger maps and improved co-op and multiplayer gameplay.

The shooting mechanics are very realistic. Just like a real-life sniper, you will need to hold your in-game breath to aim accurately and account for bullet drop and muzzle velocity. The sniper also has two types of ammo. The silenced ammo is more precious and hard to find, but it is very useful.

All of these tactics combined may keep users and Sniper Elitists to stick with the game.

Graphics & Performance

Sniper Elite 4’s graphics are quite better than it’s predecessor. The visuals are great and the colors are vibrant.
Rebellion Developments did a great job at Sniper Elite 4’s graphics and high-quality textures.

Here are some 4K screenshots of the game, captured on a PC with a Core i5-6500, 16GB RAM and a GTX 1070 8GB

Running the game doesn’t require you the highest end of hardware. To run the game you need an i3 2100 (that’s about 5 generations old if we aren’t mistaken), an HD7870 2GB or equivalent paired with 4GB of RAM. Even though we missed out on the benchmarks the game was easily achieving over 100FPS at QHD on a GTX 1070.

PC Gamers have the full delight of tweaking the graphics of the game. From resolution to various textures, it’s all here.

Conclusion

Sniper Elite 4 is indeed a great game that comes with some modest system requirements. The storyline of the game may keep many users engaged, however, players who play other FPS shooters may feel bored due to how other games allow variations for weapons. Even though the game includes other autos, the game is based on snipers who really want the full Sniper Elite satisfaction.

In our opinion, it’s a great game. However, for newcomers, the repetitive even though a bit challenging steps may get some newcomers off the stream. Adding a few more features and challenges should really make the game appealing to newcomers as well.

We would like to award this product our Silver Award! An excellent product, indeed!
