Being a major competitor to EA’s Need For Speed series, the racing game really had a vibe of its own. With the Rockstar team launching four games into the series, Rockstar finally left the IP in the dust and started working on new IPs.
With their last game, Midnight Club:LA launching back in 2008, the game was a major competitor to Need For Speed Undercover. The game was launched on consoles only, that being the PSP, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The RAGE, powered game brought a ton to the table, from car options to customisations. Best of all, they didn’t skimp the PSP version of the game too.
Back then in 2008, MC:LA features adrenaline filled races, excellent graphics, gameplay mechanics and an amazing set of cars that to this day looks amazing.
Fast-forward to today, and it seems like we need that Midnight Club vibe back. I personally was taken back by nostalgia when I found Midnight Club:LA Remix on my PSP. For those who haven’t seen Midnight Club:LA, here’s some gameplay, courtesy of “Crowned”.
Well, according to reports from several sources, Rockstar did not pay as much attention to the Midnight Club team when they started working on GTA and other IPs. On top of that, Engadget reports that a few inside sources from the studio told them that they were given unrealistic release dates. That, coupled with Rockstar’s plan to work on the Red Dead franchise killed the franchise in itself.
With EA coming with a new Need For Speed title this year, I think the Midnight Club franchise still has a place in the gaming community.
EA’s Need For Speed Payback is set to release on the 10th of November 2017. The game is going to be available on the PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One.
