Armaggeddon has been gaining a lot of attraction is South East Asia. The Singaporean brand has constantly been feeding PC enthusiasts with some excellent peripherals. Their Armaggeddon Nuke 9 has made its way to our tables for testing. Armaggeddon calls their Nuke 9 their Ultimate 7.1 Gaming Headset. But is it? Let’s find out.
The Armaggeddon Nuke 9 features quite a number of interesting specifications. Before we start off this review, here’s some of the specifications of the headset and microphone.
FREQUENCY RESPONSE | 20Hz~20KHz |
IMPEDANCE | 16 Ω |
SENSITIVITY | 114dB |
RATED POWER | 20mW |
DRIVERS | 2 x 50mm |
FREQUENCY RESPONSE | 20Hz~16KHz |
SENSITIVITY | ~43dB |
01 | Design & Build Quality
The Armaggeddon Nuke 9 is mostly built of plastic. However, the headstrap and earcup cushions are vegan leather coated. The Armaggeddon Nuke 9 has a glossy finish on its earcups with some excellent RGB touching on both of its earcups. Alongside that, the headset isn’t heavy either, weighing in at just 385g. The headset comes with a 2.2M cable for those who really need the long length cable. Sadly, the microphone is not retractable but its fairly flexible. The headset requires a single USB port to operate.
The build quality of the headset is quite solid. However, do note that the earcups do not swivel to adjust to the shape of your face. Overall, the cushion leather the earcups seems to be very comfortable that would easily allow players to engage in their gaming sessions for extended periods of time. It seems to be a perfect design with its excellent color scheme with minimal RGB lighting zones making it a wonder for many players.
Overall, we pretty much loved the build quality and the design of the headset itself. If Armaggeddon are willing to release a sequel to this headset, I would absolutely love the inclusion of earcups that could swivel along with a retractable microphone.
02 | Sound Quality & User Experience
The Armaggeddon Nuke 9 comes with two 50mm drivers. The Armaggeddon Nuke 9 supports 7.1 surround sound that allows users to pinpoint the origin of sounds in-game. In a game as critical as Counter-Strike:Global Offensive, the headset did allow us to distinguish the enemy’s footsteps.
However, we would say that the headset isn’t good. The drivers produce unoriginal sounds where shooting any gun produces unoriginal sounds. On top of that, while shooting the shots had a slight crackling sound to them as well. The gameplay experience was very awkward with the headset and is a shame that the drivers were great that did a great job nailing down the direction of the sounds but at the same time produced unoriginal sounds. Bass was just fine, not too good. Whereas, listening to the music is just fine. Nothing spectacular.
Regarding the microphone that comes with the headset, I’d say it was good. We couldn’t find any issues with the microphone as it sounded fine. Yet again, nothing spectacular.
03 | Conclusion
The Armaggeddon Nuke 9 would have been one of the best headsets that Armaggeddon has ever released. However, with the most critical part, the drivers having some issues and producing unoriginal sounds, I simply can’t recommend it for hardcore gaming. However for casual play it was fine. If only the drivers were better, this would have been an amazing headset for its build quality, design, aesthetics, microphone and RGB lighting.
