Square Enix Reveals RTX 2080 & 2080 Ti Final Fantasy XV Benchmarks – 40% Faster Than The GTX 1080

While it may have been more than two years since the initial launch of Nvidia’s Pascal lineup of GPUs, Nvidia’s recent comeback hasn’t been that much of a thirst-quencher it seems. When Nvidia initially revealed their Turing lineup of GPUs, that is, the RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080,  a ton of gamers found themselves baffled about what these cards are actually capable of. Not only did Nvidia confuse gamers who were enticed for these new GPUs by showcasing “Gigarays” as a new metric, but also showed no details of how much faster these new GPUs are except for showcasing the applications of ray-tracing.

While most of the benchmarks claim that they’ve been leaked, there’s no official word on how accurate those figures are. Given that previous leaks have assured about a 20-50% uplift, we recently took a few new numbers into consideration.

Recently, the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti appeared on Square Enix’s official website that records average scores from systems. Among those benchmarks are the new RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti. The RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti were seen on their benchmark database. As expected, the RTX 2080 Ti was incredibly faster than the rest of the cards. Here’s the benchmark scores retrieved from Square Enix.

FFXV – 1440p – Standard Quality

The following scores were recorded with the game’s benchmark tool. Do note though, that these numbers were benchmarked at Standard Quality.

  • RTX 2080 Ti – 12,009
  • GTX 1080 Ti – 9,536 (-20.5% vs RTX 2080 Ti)
  • GTX 1080 – 7,541 (-38.2% vs RTX 2080 Ti)

FFXV – 1440p – High Quality

The following scores were recorded with the game’s benchmark tool. Do note though, that these numbers were benchmarked at High Quality.

  • RTX 2080 Ti – 10,082
  • RTX 2080 – 8,171 (-19% vs RTX 2080 Ti)
  • GTX 1080 Ti – 7,793 (-22.7 vs RTX 2080 Ti)
  • GTX 1080 – 6,103 (-39.5% vs RTX 2080 Ti)

FFXV – 4k – Standard Quality

The following scores were recorded with the game’s benchmark tool. Do note though, that these numbers were benchmarked at Standard Quality.

  • RTX 2080 Ti – 6,806
  • RTX 2080 – 5,286 (-22.4% vs RTX 2080 Ti)
  • GTX 1080 Ti – 5,256(-22.8% vs RTX 2080 Ti)
  • GTX 1080 – 3,900(-42.7% vs RTX 2080 Ti)

FFXV – 4k – High Quality

The following scores were recorded with the game’s benchmark tool. Do note though, that these numbers were benchmarked at High Quality.

  • RTX 2080 Ti – 5,922
  • RTX 2080 – 4,627 (-21.8% vs RTX 2080 Ti)
  • GTX 1080 Ti – 4,441 (-25% vs RTX 2080 Ti)
  • GTX 1080 – 3,395 (-42.6% vs RTX 2080 Ti)

These were the benchmarks obtained. Impressively enough, the RTX 2080 Ti had quite a lead. But again, given that this is just one game I would be interested to see how well these new cards perform in benchmarks.

On average, our math tells us that the GTX 1080 is approximately 40% slower that the highest-end Turning card, that is, the RTX 2080 Ti. When compared to the GTX 1080 Ti, it seems like the GTX 1080 Ti is on par with the new RTX 2080 (non-Ti) in FFXV.

Given that these tests are standardized, we could take these numbers with some form of weight. However, since FFXV may not be everyone’s cup on tea, I’m intrigued to see how much faster do these new GPUs perform in other games.
