Sony has just announced some incredible news for Xperia device owners. The company has announced release dates for the Android Pie launch for their Xperia lineup. The update is expected to be delivered in waves as revealed by Sony and would start being pushed via OTA updates starting October the 26th. The seven devices confirmed to get the update are…
- Sony Xperia XZ Premium
- Sony Xperia XZ1
- Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact
- Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium
- Sony Xperia XA2
- Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra
- Sony Xperia XA2 Plus
Sony has announced that the OTA updates would be released in three waves beginning with the Xperia XZ Premium, XZ1 and XZ1 Compact. These three devices are expected to receive their update by October 26th, followed by the XZ2 Premium on November the 7th. The last three devices on the list are the XA2, XA2 Ultra, and XA2 Plus. Sony has announced that these three devices should get their update OTA by the March 4th.
By the looks of it, it seems like users with the XA2 family would be neglected the most. Considering that the XA2 lineup is still considered relatively new, having a release date for next year March seems to be a far fetch for many Sony Xperia users and is definitely an issue has Sony has to live up to. For devices released with Android Oreo out of the box, it would be such a bummer to see Sony to deliver Android Pie to their lineup a full year after their launch.
The Sony Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra made their debut in February this year. Followed by the release of those phones, Sony then announced the XA2 Plus in September, a month ago.
