M2 Macbook Air Release Date, Specifications, Price, Design and More

In 2020, the Cupertino company unveiled the M1-powered MacBook Air, and in 2021, the M1 Pro, as well as M1 Max chipsets, were added to the MacBook Pro. Thus, the whole MacBook line-up is now made of Apple Silicon.

Last year, rumors were surrounding the MacBook Air M2, but nothing came of it. The next MacBook Air with the M2 processor is now expected to be released this year.

We don’t know what the next MacBook Air will be named yet, but it’s expected to be dubbed the MacBook Air M2 because of the M2 processor that will power it.

According to rumors, the forthcoming laptop will have a more modern look with slimmer bezels and a wider range of color choices than previous models. The M2 processor is expected to be more powerful in the next MacBook Air. Even though the number of cores continues to stay the same as M1, leaks suggest that this new core processor will perform better.

Here’s everything we know about the next MacBook Air M2.

MacBook Air M2 Release Date

After more than a year following the M1 debut, the tech giant seems to be cooking an upgraded version. The MacBook Air M2 is expected to go into mass production as early as January, according to reports. Following up, the source adds that the aforementioned MacBook Air M2 will be released sometime in March.

MacBook Air M2 Specs and Features

The MacBook Air is Apple’s most affordable and widely used notebook. In 2020, the M1 chipset was added to the laptop, which saw a major hardware improvement.

Many images of the next MacBook Air M2 have surfaced online, all of which signal a significant redesign. A new MacBook Pro-like notch design was seen in Jon Prosser’s sketches. Nonetheless, the notch is absent from other images, which is odd. It is thus impossible to tell whether or not the notch will be included at this time.

The images made public by LeaksApplePro show the MacBook Air M2 sporting its standard bezels. The bezels on the future model may be decreased.

The webcam remains in the top bezel. The curved edges of the MacBook Pro seem to have influenced the new design. Both the left and right sides of the display have two ports apiece. There are two Thunderbolt ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack is present on the right, whereas the MagSafe connection is on the left.

The M1 chipset is used in the latest MacBook Air, while the M1 Pro, as well as M1 Max chipsets, are included in the MacBook Pros. Apple may include an M2 processor in the upcoming MacBook Air.

The ratio of cores in this chipset is supposed to be the same as in M1, although it might perform better. According to some rumors, the chipset will be manufactured using a 4nm process node, however other sources report that it might use a 3nm process node.

MacBook Air M2 Price (Expected)

In a recent leak, ApplePro also suggested the MacBook Air’s price. Here’s a slight overview of it:

  • M1 MacBook Air, 8-Core CPU, 7-Core GPU, 256GB SSD £999/$999
  • M1 MacBook Air, 8-Core CPU, 8-Core GPU, 512GB SSD £1,249/$1,249

Although the present MacBook Air is excellent, it’s time for a refresh. And that’s what the reports about the MacBook Air 2022 suggest, too. There is a good chance that the upcoming MacBook Air will share a stronger appeal if Apple fits a sharper display with fewer bezels as well as an improved processor set with MagSafe charging.
