The Last Kingdom is a Netflix-exclusive historical drama based on the novel by Bernard Cornwell. It consists of four seasons, with five more to go! The first episode was released in 2015 and has so far collected 36 episodes including Season 5 which will be available tomorrow morning (EST).
The series begins with the arrival of Viking raiders in 866, and follows their quest for land as they ravage Anglo-Saxon England. The Great Heathen Army arrives at last on British shores but it’s not without cost; King Egbert (the king of Wessex) dies fighting against them while others band together under his son Edward to fight off these pillaging foreigners – one battle after another stretching across seasons until finally peace can be prevailing
The story goes like this: first we see how decadelong campaigns between native Saxons and Scandinavian invaders left much-witnessed damage upon each side–waste fields where villages used to be, ruins of churches and monasteries. So there’s an interesting dichotomy where these people are fighting over land, to begin with, but they also have to respect the religious institutions that used to occupy those spaces.
The show is a dramatic account of life during the Viking Age, where it follows main characters as they try to resist invaders from elsewhere in Europe. The first season focuses on events happening around 866-878AD and further seasons continue this pattern accordingly with each new episode revealing more secrets about what happened after peace was finally restored between Scandinavians/Vikings and Anglo Saxons living side by sides across England’s south coast

The Last Kingdom Season 5 Plot:
King Alfred is busy fighting off the Viking invasions and trying to unite the fractured Anglo-Saxon kingdoms. While he is away, his wife and daughter are left to defend his kingdom in his absence. When a new Viking threat emerges, Alfred must take up arms once again and lead his people to victory.
In the fourth season, we see that Uhtred has started to interact more with his children than in previous seasons. His stubbornness and desire for peace have been adapted by them while Sitorra wanted a bargain but eventually decided on collaboration when it became clear what would happen if she didn’t negotiate; nowadays her brother is still trying hard at making Christianity popular among Danes as well studying abroad like before under Bishop Mags began teaching him Latin read aloud during lessons time!
Uhtred has been struggling to decide what is more important, his loyalty or love for England. After East Anglia took control of Wessex and Mercia it became clear that Northumbria would be the last kingdom left in Danish hands; however Edward wanted more than just revenge on their ancestors’ killer – he also desired an entire English realm under one rule which is why Aethelflaed set out with her army into battle against them when they invaded ASUS Britain many years ago…
Season 5 expectations
The United cousin of Uhtred, Whitgar becomes the lord of Bebbanburg after murdering his own father at a time when England was in danger from Danes.
Uhtred is on a mission to take revenge against his cousin for the murder of Becca’s father. Whitgar has made it clear that anyone who can claim ownership over Bebbanburg will not live out their days in peace, and this includes Uthtred as well!
With only four more seasons left, it’s about time for the characters to start changing. At this point in history, many will have been killed off or convinced into aiding Aethelstane with his plans against King Edward Andrews soon aligned kingdom of Winchester
Aelswith seems like she might be slowly poisoning herself while sieging one of our last outposts as well before making her way back home where things seem pretty bad already- though not quite irreversible yet? It looks inevitable that Eahlwulf will finally return home to Bebbanburg and will be a great help to Uhtred in the fight against his cousin Whitgar.
Father Pyrlig might convert Uhtreds son Alfred to Christianity as well during their travels; he has been a big help and advisor to the king so far.
With the NorthSide Scots seeking to reclaim lost land in England, it’s only a matter of time before they come south and besiege Brida. Saxons will also take revenge on Uhtred for his actions against them earlier this season but he may have some help from Dane who are none too pleased with their Karen relative either way you look at things!
