ARLINGTON, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) — At WrestleMania 38 on Sunday, Roman Reigns cemented his place at the top of the WWE by defeating Brock Lesnar and becoming the Undisputed WWE Universal champion.
Welcome back to my “Highs and Lows,” this time featuring Roman Reigns’ ultimate achievement, Vince McMahon wrestling a match, Pat McAfee living out his ambition, and Sami Zayn stealing the show on night two of WrestleMania 38.
Here’s a quick rundown of the match’s outcomes:
- RK-Bro retained the Raw Tag Team titles by pin falling Street Profits and Alpha Academy.
- After hitting a spear, Bobby Lashley defeated Omos by pinfall.
- After wrestling a Jackass-style, anything goes match for nearly 15 minutes, Johnny Knoxville defeated Sami Zayn via pinfall.
- Sasha Banks and Naomi won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship by defeating Queen Zelina/Carmella, Rhea Ripley/Liv Morgan, and Natalya/Shayna Baszler.
- After a diversion by Damian Priest, Edge pinfalls AJ Styles.
- Ridge Holland and Sheamus defeated New Day in under two minutes by pinfall.
- Pat McAfee won by pinfall over Austin Theory.

Roman reigns supreme
While the contest was shorter than I had hoped, it was nonetheless an intense battle between two physical specimens that kept me on the tip of my seat waiting to see who would emerge victorious.
Roman Reigns’ legacy is essential to the company, therefore allowing him to win was the proper decision. At WrestleMania, this was his chance to shine.
My only criticism is that airing it so soon after Vince McMahon’s first match since 2010 may have been a miscalculation.
The crowd was still buzzing from seeing “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Mr. McMahon in a classic match, which may have distracted them from the start of Roman/Brock.
Vince McMahon, Stone Cold, Pat McAfee, and Austin Theory are all WWE Superstars.
This was incredible on so many levels.
From the moment “Seven Nation Army” hit, Pat McAfee had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand. It was incredible to be there in person and hear how much love he had from the crowd as he battled Theory.
I’ve been to a lot of wrestling concerts when world-class performers don’t get such a long ovation. So it was unique to hear an announcer/analyst get such a response from the audience.
The real shock came when Vince took off his button-up shirt to wrestle McAfee. As good as the match versus Theory was, the true shock came when Vince pulled off his button-up shirt to wrestle McAfee. The crowd erupted in such a way that it felt as if the roof was about to collapse.
Instead of writing about how I felt about (what could be) the ultimate fight between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Mr. McMahon, I’ll just show you.
Match between Johnny Knoxville and Jackass
No one anticipated the match to steal the show, but it did because it was the most entertaining of the evening.
This was bliss if you grew up watching both Jackass and wrestling, as a huge chunk of the audience definitely did. Party Boy, Jackass pranks like the huge hand, and Wee-Man staging a WrestleMania 3 by body-slamming Sami Zayn were all present.
The atmosphere was electrifying from start to end, which is exactly what you want in a celebrity match like this. There was a lot of success all around.

New Day is being squandered
New Day continues to be disrespected.
They were initially postponed for the first night. Then, on night two, their match was little more than a squash match. Two of the company’s most popular Superstars are Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods. Why are they being treated this way?
It was made worse by the fact that they were dressed in Big E-style attire to pay honour to their injured pal.
Omos is defeated by Lashley.
It’s not that the match wasn’t enjoyable; it certainly was. Some of the booking decisions had me perplexed.
Is Lashley now a real person? Shouldn’t there be some kind of angle or explanation for why he’s no longer with MVP and smacking hands with kids? We just felt like we bypassed a chapter, and nobody seemed to mind.
I would have been a lot happier with Lashley’s victory if a face change had been established in any fashion prior.
