Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Tips and Tricks You Need to Know

For the past month, we’ve been using the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and have been blown away by its performance. For us, it began with the design – a sleek new design with an integrated S-Pen and slim camera units – but has since expanded to include features such as all-day battery life and a next-generation CPU.

We’re finding that the more we use the phone, the more we appreciate the useful features that elevate the user experience.

These are the kinds of features we wish every smartphone had! We’ve outlined our favourite Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra tips and tricks below, whether it’s utilising the S-Pen as a remote camera shutter button or editing RAW photographs in post-production. Let’s take a look at them!

The S-Pen

Handwriting to Text

The S-Pen is, without a doubt, the best tool included with the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra this year. While it may have signalled the end of our beloved Note (at least in the way we knew it), the fact that it’s been so seamlessly integrated into the Galaxy S22 Ultra offers us even more motivation to whip out the pen and utilise it whenever we can.

Aside from obvious use cases like signing digital documents, the S-Pen shines when it comes to handwriting-to-text.

You may enable ‘S-Pen-to-text’ in the S-Pen settings, which allows you to write directly into browsers like Chrome without having to enter anything. If the search bar becomes too crowded, the sidebar menu can be enlarged to add a separate handwriting feature for scribbling notes on the fly.

If you’re drawing shapes with the S-Pen and can’t seem to achieve the exact shape, hold the pen down after you’ve completed and the phone will draw it for you. Penning with the S-Pen is a breeze, but the functions go far beyond handwriting and jotting down notes. We haven’t even discussed Gesture Controls!

Gesture Control

The S-gesture Pen’s controls are by far our favourite feature. Samsung has increased the functionality of the pen since it was included in the device, urging users to utilise it whenever possible. “What else is it good for besides writing?” you might wonder. So, scroll down to see some of the finest S-Pen movements.

  1. You may open the camera by pressing and holding the button and then use the S-Pen as a remote shutter.
  2.  The camera will zoom in and out depending on whether you wave the pen clockwise or anti-clockwise.
  3. The selfie camera will open when you double-click the button.
  4.  Toggle between photographs in your gallery and change Spotify songs by moving the S-Pen left and right.
  5.  To change the volume, swipe up or down

While handwriting with the S-Pen may come to mind first, there are a plethora of additional uses for this handy piece of equipment when it comes to using cameras. Let’s have a look at some of the tips and techniques that are built within the camera software.

Camera

Lithography

Lithography is a new feature of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series that takes advantage of the best camera hardware available. The Galaxy S22 Ultra’s 108MP primary sensor (1-inch) allows the phone to take in more light than most smartphones on the market, so if you’re seeking the greatest possible photographs from a smartphone, look no further.

This translates to excellent low-light photography, and Samsung makes it simple for users with its ‘lithography’ feature, which can be found in the camera app.

Here, you may snap away and leave the rest to the huge sensor and software. If you keep your phone stationary, the camera will display a countdown timer as it opens the shutter and lets light in before capturing the picture. As you can see from the above findings, the image is brighter yet still sharp and hazy. It’s a very useful feature that comes in handy when travelling at night in low-light circumstances.

Autoframing

With so much video conferencing happening these days, it’s nice to know that the camera will auto frame footage when chatting with friends and coworkers. Furthermore, anytime someone walks into the frame, it will face-track them, opening the frame up as it recognises the need for the greater room.

The feature is capable of tracking up to ten persons at once. Finally, if you click on someone’s face, it will zoom in and focus on them, which is ideal for presentations.

Detail Enhancer

You’ll see an icon in the lower right-hand corner of the screen when you’re in photo mode. When you tap on it, a detail enhancer appears, which sharpens the image while remaining undetectable. Objects with rich textures, such as plants, small sculptures, and paintings, will stand out.

After you’ve snapped that precise photograph, pull out the S-Pen and open the Samsung Photo Editor, where you can apply filters to photos and modify parameters like light balance, brightness, exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, saturation, hue, and temperature, among others.

Most importantly, it’s simple to use, because you shouldn’t need to be a pro photographer with much post-production experience to know what looks nice! However, if you are… This is also taken care of by Samsung.

RAW Images

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra can take RAW photos, which means you can get more detail and dynamic range out of your camera sensor. This means more overhead for editing, which is ideal for professionals and individuals who want to experiment with and develop professional camera and post-production abilities.

To shoot in RAW on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, go to pro-mode in the camera app, then to settings, then to picture format, where you’ll find the RAW image setting. This will unlock the camera’s highest quality, allowing you to fine-tune the photographs in post-production. RAW photographs will be marked with a ‘RAW’ sign in the top right corner of the image gallery so you know which ones are ready to transfer.

We strongly advise you to use Adobe Lightroom in this situation. It’s free software available on Google Play that offers the greatest photo editing on mobile devices, hands down.

Object Eraser

The Object Eraser has to be our most frequently utilised software or post-production function. Open any photograph in the camera gallery and then click ‘edit’ before navigating to the object eraser via the three dots in the bottom right-hand corner.

Draw a circle around the object you wish to erase with the S-Pen, such as a person, an animal, a traffic cone, a light post, or anything else, and then click ‘erase.’ Selecting the proper button and highlighting with the S-Pen also works for shadows and reflections.

If you’re travelling and tourists are photobombing your photos, or maybe there’s simply some rubbish on the ground, it’s one of the most useful things to have. Whatever it is, the wipe tool will completely remove it.

User Interface

So, we’ve shown you all the capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra’s camera and S-Pen that you didn’t know about, but what about the User Interface? Customization is the name of the game here, and it’s combined with a slew of a minor (but useful) features to create an extreme experience that goes above and beyond what you may expect from a smartphone. Let’s have a look at them.

Customisation

Customization is first and foremost, and the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is one of the most customizable smartphones available. Almost everything, from colour schemes to personal contact videos (yes, videos) and even emojis, maybe customised here. Here are a few personalization ideas that we’ve been enjoying.

  1. Change themes by pinching the home screen, which has a colour pallet that may be matched to your wallpaper.
  2. You can utilise videos as a call background and even use the music as a ringtone.
  3. Yes, emojis may be combined and animated as a gif.
  4. Extra brightness can be toggled on in the display settings to attain the 1750-nit maximum capability.

Other Cool Features

  1. Set a timer and it will merge as a pop-up to the home screen even when you’re not using the app so you can pause it.
  2. The camera indicator light will tell you when it’s on, however, you can manually turn off the camera for privacy.
  3. The camera cutout can be hidden for selected apps manually through the display menu.
  4. A ‘Battery Protect’ setting helps stop the phone from charging above 85% increasing the lifespan of the battery.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is exactly what it says on the tin.

We’ve been using the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra for a month and can confidently say that the tips and tricks listed above will elevate your smartphone experience.

While the Galaxy S22 Ultra offers class-leading performance thanks to a strong CPU, all-day battery life, a 6.8-inch QHD+ display, and even IP68 water resistance, it also offers a full user experience that will leave you asking “how on earth did it just do that?” every day.
