Surprising, ‘matrix’ Alums the Wachowski Sisters Register to Auction Off Their Own Custom ‘matrix’ Stuff.

Lana and Lilly Wachowski, the creators of “The Matrix” and “Cloud Atlas,” are auctioning off roughly 200 artefacts and cinematic memorabilia from their extensive collection.

Some of the treasures, including genuine pieces from some of the sisters’ most famous moments, were difficult to part with, according to Lilly Wachoswki. However, the auction earnings will benefit groups that advocate for and defend transgender youngsters, a subject dear to the sisters.

“Happily decided to pass on some of the finest treasures we’ve been collecting over the years!” Lilly Wachowski tweeted, adding that she and Lana had been doing some “spring cleaning” when they “happily decided to pass on some of the best treasures we’ve been collecting over the years!”

“There’s no ark of the covenants here, but there are some fairly important and mystical items!” she said.

Original artwork, mock-ups of renowned setpieces, and knickknacks from the Wachowskis’ desks are among the dozens of limited-edition and one-of-a-kind products available to fans of the Wachowskis. There are also a number of uncommon finds from their Netflix series “Sense8” as well as the films “Jupiter Ascending” and “Speed Racer,” with some things starting as $30.

The Protect & Defend Trans Youth Fund, which Ariana Grande launched last month, will benefit from the sale of every item, from the sisters’ MTV Movie Awards for “The Matrix” to the iconic lightning gun from the first film in the series. The fund’s donations will be allocated to a number of trans-serving groups, including the Black Trans Advocacy Coalition and Transanta.

Both Wachowski sisters are trans and have spoken out against anti-transgender legislation that has been proposed (and occasionally approved) across the United States.

In 2020, Lilly Wachowski, who directed and co-wrote the first three “Matrix” films with Lana, stated that the seminal series is an allegory for transformation. From the perspective of Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, the plot is “all about the longing for transformation.” Both sisters publicly came out as trans years after the release of the third “Matrix” film.

Their series “Sense8” took a more overt approach to trans storytelling from the perspective of trans character Nomi, played by trans actress Jamie Clayton. Wachowski diehards can access the auction online. The live auction begins May 12 at 11 a.m. ET.

The “Enter the Matrix: The Wachowski Collection,” as it’s dubbed, is a cinema collector’s dream. Cloud Atlas, Jupiter Ascending, Sense8, and, of course, The Matrix series will be represented by props, concept art, and collector memorabilia from their numerous films and television projects.

An original lightning rifle from The Matrix, a Neo-Seoul Police Speeder from Cloud Atlas, and their MTV Movie Awards for Best Director for The Matrix are among the extraordinary things offered for sale.

The auction’s revenues will go to Grande’s Protect & Defend Trans Youth Fund, which she established in March on International Transgender Day of Visibility. Grande announced the announcement on Instagram, saying she has teamed up with Pledge to develop a new fragrance.
