The New Features of Anker’s 100w Gan Charger Smaller and Lighter Than Apple’s 96w Charger, With Three Usb Ports Instead of Two.

New Anker 736 Charger, or Nano II 100W, is the first of two new charging solutions announced by the popular charging accessory firm Anker. Three devices may be charged concurrently with the Anker 736’s 100 watts of total charging capacity and two USB-C connectors and one USB-A port.

Gallium nitride-based components are used in the second generation of Nano II chargers, which replace silicon components in previous chargers to deliver more power in a smaller container with less heat.

Nano II 100W is 34 percent smaller than Apple’s 96W charger, yet it has the same capabilities and two more ports to help you decrease the number of products you’ll need to keep your devices fueled up. In addition, its USB Power Delivery 3.0 PPS (programmable power standard) and Quick Charge 3.0 compatibility make it compatible with a broad variety of devices.

The US version of Anker’s 736 USB charger, which was first shown at CES in January, is now available on Amazon for $75.99 in black/silver.

In comparison to Apple’s 96-watt charger, the 100-watt 736 charger from Anker is 34% smaller and has three USB ports for charging several devices at the same time.

With two USB-C connectors and an A port, the 736 can automatically distribute power across the ports depending on how many are in use. Unless you’re using the 140-watt charger that comes with the current 16-inch MacBook Pro models for rapid charging, either USB-C port delivers 100 watts of power when used alone.

Depending on which ports are utilized, the number of alternative configurations for a two-port arrangement is nearly infinite. The top USB-C port provides 60 watts, while the bottom one provides 40 watts when both are utilized.

It is possible to combine the top USB-C port and the USB-A port to produce 80 watts and 18 watts while combining the bottom USB-C port and the USB-A to deliver 60 watts and 22.5 watts respectively.

There are a few other companies adopting gallium nitride (GaN) for smaller, more powerful chargers, including Anker, but Anker has been ahead of the game since launching its first GaN power adapter in 2018.

Anker CEO Steven Yang revealed why his firm has been so quick to debut GaN and modify products based on it in a discussion with The Verge EiC Nilay Patel on the Decoder podcast last autumn.

If all three ports are used, the top USB-C port will provide 45 watts, the bottom USB-C port will provide 30 watts, and the USB-A port will provide 18 watts.

It joins the comparable Anker 735 charger announced earlier this month, which also contains two USB-C connections and a USB-A port, but only produces a maximum of 65 watts.

Gallium nitride, an important enabling technology, was just introduced to the market three years ago, yet we’re now in the third generation of devices using it. Investing in gallium nitride as a technology is not required. Has a pipeline for suppliers or materials science been established? How do you keep track of that money?

Anker was the first to bring gallium nitride to the market for consumer electronics. To collaborate with the frontier chipset makers, who created the gallium nitride charging chip, we were able to do this. We were in the running to be the company’s first customer. As a result, when the chip was originally being created, there were several hurdles to overcome before it could be sold.

As a result, experts in material science, software development, system architecture, and thermal management are all required. It’s nearly a system-wide undertaking. We construct products by combining our understanding of gallium nitride chips with that of the manufacturer and the chips themselves.

GaN2 will be available in 65-watt and 30-watt versions this year. With Power Innovations, we’ve been collaborating on this project for about a year now. The GaN2 family of chips, which we introduced in the middle of this year, is a completely new technology. With a 65-watt rating, GaN2’s power consumption was a quarter of that of the rivals.

Because of the latest GaN2 generation from Power Innovations, this was possible. Since PI and Anker have been working together exclusively, you won’t see identical devices from other manufacturers for at least three to six months.

As a result, Anker and PI have worked together exclusively on the next generation of GaN chipsets, which will be available to the public in three to six months.

In an interview with The Verge, Anker US media relations head Tyler Mallery verified that the charger has launched and that the company was awaiting the arrival of additional stock at the time of publication. Anker’s website hasn’t even featured the 736 chargers yet, so if this is the charger you’ve been waiting for, keep a watch on that Amazon page to see when it re-stocks.”
