To celebrate the Indian men’s badminton team’s historic victory at the Thomas Cup World team badminton championships in Bangkok on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was delighted to greet the Team with Uttermost compassion and Congratulations.
India became only the sixth nation to win the Thomas Cup in the seven-decade history of the competition with a convincing 3-0 victory against 14-time champions Indonesia in their first appearance in the final.

The Thomas Cup-winning Indian team will get a prize of Rs 1 crore from MYAS.
A spontaneous decision was made by Shri Anurag Singh Thakur to celebrate the win. It was necessary to change the regulations after India’s remarkable victory over Malaysia, Denmark, and Indonesia in the Thomas Cup play-offs. We are proud to present the Rs 1 crore prize to the team that has given Indians such delight over the last several days,” he added.
The Minister expressed his admiration for the Indian team’s players, coaches, and support personnel. Both Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy maintained a perfect record by winning all of their matches.” Rankireddy and Shetty “raised the bar to win crucial points in five of six matches, including all three in the knockout stage,” he stated.
The Ministry of Sports has provided the Indian badminton team with training and competition funds of Rs 67.19 million over the last four years, including the wages of both international and domestic instructors. There have been as many as 14 overseas exposure visits financed by the Ministry in the past year, costing Rs 4.50 crore.

In the second singles, Kidambi Srikanth defeated Jonatan Christie 21-15, 23-21 to secure India’s first gold medal in the competition’s history. Lakshya had earlier stunned world number five Anthony Sinisuka Ginting with a come-from-behind victory.

After that, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty proved their abilities and expertise to overcome Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo in the final. By beating Asian Games gold medalist Jonatan Christie 21-15 23-21, Kidambi Srikanth won India’s first-ever Thomas Cup gold title.

The Indonesian, on the other hand, rallied to take a 16-13 lead, but Srikanth hung in there and refused to give up.
Srikanth then saved a game point at 20-21 before sealing the game and the match for India, giving them a remarkable victory.
