Jane Seymour, Linda Lavin, Ben Vereen, and Bernie Kopell appeared in the series, which was executive produced by Chuck Lorre. After receiving a huge sum of money, Gina chose to acquire Valley Hills, the senior home where she works, in the second season, which ended in March. Pennette left the sitcom before the season 2 debut in October, prompting the cancellation. The creator’s own personal experiences served as inspiration for the series.

What’s the Story Behind This TV Show?

“Canine Extraction” – Gina has three days to teach Cannoli the dog new tricks before his owner returns from overseas. Also, Drew must deal with Maddie growing up, at a new time on B POSITIVE, Thursday, April 1 (9:30-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Annaleigh Ashford, Thomas Middleditch, Kether Donohue, Sara Rue, Izzy G., Terrence Terrell, Linda Lavin, David Anthony Higgins, and Darryl Stephens star in the CBS television show B Positive, with Hector Elizondo, Jane Seymour, Ben Vereen, Jim Beaver, and Anna Maria Horsford recurring. Drew (Middleditch), a therapist and freshly divorced father, is in desperate need of a new kidney as well as a social life. Gina (Ashford), a rough-around-the-edges old high school buddy, offers one of her own kidneys as a donation. Drew and Gina create an unexpected but life-affirming bond together. Gina discovers that the happiness she’d been seeking all along can be found in the act of giving during the process. Drew begins his new life in season two with Gina’s healthy new kidney. Meanwhile, Gina receives a windfall from a patient at Valley Hills, the assisted care home where she works, prompting her to make a significant change in her life.

Whereas Season 1 of the multi-camera sitcom focused on Thomas Middleditch’s Drew, a man in need of a kidney, and Annaleigh Ashford’s Gina, his unlikely donor, Season 2 followed up the successful transplant with a financial windfall for Gina, steering her life — and, by extension, the series — in a completely different direction. Gina took over Valley Hills in Episode 3, and the sitcom featured a new Ensemble of a Certain Age, which included Hector Elizondo, Jane Seymour, Ben Vereen, and Jim Beaver.

Ratings for Season 2

B Positive’s second season averaged a 0.44 rating in the 18-49 demo and 4.48 million viewers in live+same day ratings (includes all DVR playback through 3:00 AM). In the live+same day ratings, that’s down by 21% in the demo and 4% in viewership when compared to season one (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). While these figures do not account for additional delayed or streamed viewing, they are a good estimate of how well a show is doing, particularly when compared to others on the same channel. Despite other economic variables, higher-rated shows are more likely to be renewed, whereas lower-rated shows are more likely to be terminated. See how B Positive compares to other CBS television series.

Gina finally recognized she wanted to pursue a relationship with Drew in the Season 2 finale, which aired March 10. Unfortunately, by the time she dashed out to confront the guy she loves, he’d already left in his camper van, having decided to spend the next few months in Alaska to put some distance between them. Even though the senior residents had elected to stay at Valley Hills rather than go to Golden Horizons, it became clear that their choice was no longer theirs. It would be up to their children (and their money) to make those decisions for them, especially since Golden Horizons is offering such steep discounts in order to drive Gina’s retirement home out of business.

Lorre admitted to being “nervous” about the uncertainty in a March interview with TVLine, saying there had been no renewal conversations at the time. (B Positive, like the previously terminated United States of Al, was on the verge of being canceled by CBS.) He stated, “There are no promises.” “Because the results are out of my control, the only thing I attempted to focus on was putting on a spectacular show every week. But the process of making the program worth watching — of creating a show worth watching when the audience has so many other options — that’s all I can think about right now.”

Will B Positive be canceled or renewed for a third season on CBS? This sitcom was one of the network’s lower-rated comedies last season, but it still did well in comparison to other shows. Once a CBS comedy has established itself, it usually has a long run – the problem is to make it past the first or second season (The Unicorn comes to mind). B Positive is currently ranked 15th out of 20 scripted shows in its second season, and I believe it will be cancelled. I’ll keep this website updated as new information becomes available. B Positive has been canceled as of 5/13/22.

While B Positive has been canceled for the 2022-23 season, CBS has already renewed Bob Hearts Abishola (for Season 4), Ghosts (for Season 2), and The Neighborhood (for Season 2). (for Season 5, new showrunner TBA). Young Sheldon, which is presently in its fifth season, was previously renewed for a seventh season.

How do the ratings of this show compare to those of other channels’ TV shows?

Lorre went on, “I’m going to be very unhappy if I get caught up in the outcomes, the Nielsen ratings, or whatever, and what CBS chooses to do, so I try to stay out of it and focus on making the correct decisions — each scene, each moment, every line of dialogue, every narrative, every casting choice. Someone else owns the results.” Lorre also expressed his expectations for a third season at the time.

“There is a promise for a third season that explores Gina and Drew’s actual bond,” he remarked. “There will continue to be life-or-death situations among Valley Hills residents… We’ve also factored in the ongoing, ruthless struggle with Golden Horizons, as well as the prospect of a corporate entity… I’ve previously collaborated with Ryan Cartwright [who portrays Asher] on Mom and The Big Bang Theory. He’s fantastic as the corporation’s nasty, callous, and ruthless face.”
