We understand that being a member of a long-running program may provide a lot of satisfaction. The bulk of scripted shows does not run for four seasons as Magnum PI did before being canceled by CBS last month. It’s a bitter pill to take, but this show’s universe may not be finished for good!
We learned yesterday that NBC is in the early stages of discussions to pick up the series, which should keep the possibility of a resurrection alive. It’s extremely uncommon for a canceled program to go from one broadcast network to another in this era of television, but it has happened on occasion over the years.
While there’s no assurance that NBC will preserve Magnum PI, the show’s fans have made their voices known, to the point that a digital billboard will be installed in Times Square later this week! Perdita Weeks acknowledged it in a tweet today, thanking everyone and urging them to “keep tuned.”
She has the satisfaction of someone who has had a four-season run, as well as an understanding of how important this program is to fans. It might range from joyful escapist to emotional/serious the following week. It pays tribute to soldiers in a way that just a few other shows do. It also provides Perdita with a television family on the other side of the planet.
This is where we will once again advise you to proceed with caution: Billboards and campaigns are great, but talks between networks and studios may take a long time since there are so many boxes to tick. While we expect everyone to work swiftly, the cast contract deadline is currently set for the end of the month. Before reaching that stage, there’s still time to preserve the program, which might make things more difficult.
Rest assured that we’ll keep you up to date with every step of the process.
What are your thoughts on the possible situation of Magnum PI season 5 right now?
