Why Are Phase 4 Projects So Unique, According to Kevin Feige? Know Latest Updates

It’s been over a year and a half since Marvel Studios launched (the record-breaking) Phase 4 of the MCU, and with it has come a slew of new projects from Kevin Feige’s super-powered storytelling studio. Not only have fans been treated to premiere appearances from a number of heroes, such as Shang-Chi and Moon Knight, but they’ve also been treated to adventures with returning characters such as Doctor Strange and Spider-Man.

So far in this new chapter of Marvel storytelling, the franchise has been reestablishing itself, embracing a range of creative perspectives in a variety of genres. Kevin Feige, the studio’s president, has been busy planning what’s next after the decade-long Infinity Saga concluded.

Some fans are concerned about the franchise’s future as a result of this new endeavour by Marvel Studios’ executives, as it is unknown what the next ultimate goal will be – at least in these early phases. But such fears may be unfounded, since Feige has spoken about Phase 4’s early stages and the distinct trajectories each project has taken.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige discussed the various directions/tones each Phase 4 project has taken thus far in a virtual press conference for the upcoming MCU streaming series Ms. Marvel.

“The objective,” Feige told the press, was to “differentiate these projects from one another with unique tones.” He explained that the MCU is more of a “spirit and a style,” rather than “promising a certain bunch of characters and a particular exact tone.” He stated that “being able to witness all of those diverse tones, styles, and characters” is what makes this franchise so unique.

“That’s always been the intention: the Marvel Studios logo doesn’t guarantee a certain cast of characters or a specific tone. I’m hoping it has a spirit, a style, a feel, and an emotion. And the transition from Moon Knight to Ms. Marvel is ideal since they’re so distinct and diverse, with Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder on opposite ends of the spectrum. The ability to see all of those diverse tones, styles, and characters is what made Marvel so unique in publishing and now in the MCU. As a result, I appreciate it when people comment, “Look, they’re all different.” Because that’s how we’ve always felt about them and how we want them to feel about themselves.”

The studio president then addressed Ms. Marvel directly, noting that it’s “such a luxury” for Marvel to be able to ““[bring] fresh characters to the screen” like Kamala Kahn, rather than “telling reinterpretations of characters people have seen:”

“It’s such a gift to work with Marvel because not only are there reinterpretations of existing amazing characters every few years, but every once in a while, and it seems like every decade or so, there’s a new character that gets the audience’s imagination.” And, as I told some people on the red carpet last night, people started asking us in situations like this when we were promoting other characters nearly from the first few issues.

Kevin Feige is right around the corner. The Marvel Studios brand represents a mood rather than a specific tone. The MCU is now home to everything from interplanetary comedy to kung-fu epics, and it is no longer occupied by simply cookie-cutter superhero entertainment. The series’ uniqueness stems from its diversity.
