Here’s everything to anticipate from Bloodshot 2, including the movie’s release date and plot, now that Vin Diesel’s Bloodshot is in theatres. Diesel plays Ray Garrison, a former soldier who gains superhuman strength and healing skills from the nanites streaming through his blood, in Bloodshot, a film based on the Valiant Comics character.
Written by Jeff Wadlow and Eric Heisserer, the film marks Dave Wilson’s feature film debut as director.
The Sony production chronicles Ray’s journey as he discovers the truth about his new abilities and RST, the group that bestowed them onto him. The majority of Bloodshot’s supporting cast was provided by RST, as Guy Pearce plays their leader Dr. Emil Harting, who is supported by Eiza González’s KT, Sam Heughan’s Jimmy Dalton, and Alex Hernandez’s Tibbs.
But they discover during the film that Ray is no longer under control and intends to eliminate them (with a little help along the way).
There is potential for Bloodshot to continue after its premiere movie, especially with a celebrity like Diesel tied to a new superhero IP. The status of the sequel, though, still raises a lot of concerns. Is Bloodshot 2 in the works then? The sequel is covered in detail here.
A sequel to Bloodshot is planned, but Sony has not yet made that announcement. The dedication to making this into a franchise is in doubt since Valiant Comic previously sold other IP to Paramount.
The majority of the reviews for Bloodshot have been unfavourable thus far, thus the success of Vin Diesel’s most recent attempt to spearhead a franchise will be determined by the box office.
With coronavirus forcing theatre closures throughout the world and average opening weekend estimates, Bloodshot 2 may face a tough road ahead, while its rumoured $45 million budget offers it a greater chance of turning a profit.
After learning who will be on the film’s creative team, the next concern will be when it will be released in theatres if Bloodshot’s box office success is strong enough to call for a sequel. The original movie was in development for a while, but after Diesel agreed to play the lead, things moved along quite rapidly. Bloodshot’s filming started in the summer of 2018 in order for it to hit theatres in early 2020.
If Bloodshot 2 is ever planned, the first movie leaves Ray Garrison’s options open for a brand-new journey. The lack of a direct sequel setup in the film will provide the future sequel’s writers and directors virtually unrestricted creative licence.
However, a sequel might draw influence from a number of Bloodshot comic book volumes. Bloodshot 2 might expand on Ray’s past or retell the tale of how he decides to give up his nanite abilities only to reclaim them when a gang of imposters go on a killing rampage.
