Does Stranger Things Have Any Connection to This Cult Classic Horror Anime?

Anime enthusiasts might have observed a few similarities between Netflix’s Stranger Things and this cult conventional horror series.

Ever since it first premiered on Netflix back in 2016, Stranger Things has held a worldwide reputation that simply appears to develop with every season. Between relatable and adorable characters, fast-paced action, hilarious moments, horrifying monsters, and gripping writing, the display has gained the hearts of so many varieties of human beings. But where did the ideas for all of these things come from?

The creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, stated in an interview in 2017 that they certainly considered one among their many inspirations for the man or woman Eleven, and the topics on display are none apart from the cult horror conventional anime Elfen Lied!

And while we examine a few foremost plot points, Eleven’s characterization and progression, and the primary topics of the display, well, that exam. Continue reading to find out how Stranger Things is similar to Elfen Lied in more ways than you may have realized!

Lucy vs. Eleven

In Strange Things, eleven fought many villainous creatures, such as mind flayers.

Lucy is the primary man or woman in Elfen Lied, and Eleven in Stranger Things. Both are younger women with top-notch telekinetic powers and have been held in a mysterious facility that experimented on them and used them for their powers in the course of their childhood. Eventually, each of those women used their abilities to wreak havoc and flee (though no longer with blood on their hands), and they found themselves outside the current world, alone and terrified.

The parallels between Lucy and Eleven do not end there, though. Both are finally determined and rescued by human beings that don’t have any concept of what they’re getting themselves into. Elfen Lied’s Kouta and Yuka; Mike, Will, and the others in Stranger Things must then pass up to Special Forces groups, which can be decided to recapture those telekinetic women. They all threaten their lives to defend their new friend, whether or not they genuinely understand who she is and what she is capable of doing.

Main Themes:

Elfen Lied, Lucy

Stranger Things and Elfen Lied share many similarities. First, each addresses discrimination. One of Elfen Lied’s primary topics is highlighting how people separate themselves primarily based on the variations that they have gotten from one another. Because of the title “Stranger Things,” there may be an underlying theme of racism and discrimination, particularly in relation to Max and Lucas’ dating and how it is perceived by a few different characters.

Stranger Things additionally frequently indicates Eleven’s inner war: looking to make peace with who she is and what she will do, and looking to stay as a regular young woman. She is aware that she has committed acts of violence along with her powers, and is frequently driven to accomplish that once more, either through different human beings or through her circumstances. This makes her question whether she is deserving of things like her familial bond with Hopper and her relationship with Mike. Elfen Lied subjects Lucy to similar trials, contrasting her desire for vengeance with the things she does with human compassion.

Finally, each tale is supposed to make human beings query if others may be pushed to do unspeakable acts through different people and what they could do without that influence. Lucy and Eleven are each merchandise of the adults that drove them, used them, and made them into what they are, robbing them of what they may have been (despite the fact that Lucy is a Diclonius and now no longer a human). They had been pushed to violence by desperation, fear, and abuse, and they needed to save their lives by dealing with their beyond time and time again.

Which genre do they fall into?

Stranger-Things-Ensemble

It is difficult to place Stranger Things and Elfen Lied into simply one genre due to the fact that they do no longer clearly fit that well into anyone’s category. First and foremost, they’re all horror tales; they’ve got monsters, blood, mental torture, and more. But in addition, they each have love tales taking place as sub-plots, and they each split the dark and heavy topics with comedic moments and humorous dialogue. Both additionally have their honest proportion of tragedy, too, bringing many visitors to tears as they see the way the characters suffer, and yes, even die.

While the Duffer Brothers have now no longer gone into detail approximately how closely they have been inspired by Elfen Lied, most effectively stating that the anime’s topics, and especially Eleven’s, did function as an inspiration, it may be argued it had to have inspired the display strongly! There are numerous parallels between the cult classic and the cutting-edge favorite. The main characters have long been on similar journeys, and the stories are told with similar thoughts, spanning more than one genre.

Stranger Things is more palatable and less contentious than Elfen Lied, to be sure, but it was created in an exceptional era. The subsequent time you watch both of them, you could search for as many similarities as you could, and perhaps you could even discover a few parallels that we ignored between Lucy and Eleven’s journeys. Furthermore, Stranger Things has more to come, so there will most likely be even more in the coming seasons!
