“I am heartbroken and devastated beyond belief at the loss of my mom, Paige Heard,” the 34-year-old actress began.
Before she became aware of her death, there were a few red flags that weren’t quite right.
Amber Heard said on Sunday morning (July 21) that her mother died of natural causes. The cause of death will be determined by the coroner.
“I am heartbroken and devastated beyond belief at the loss of my mom, Paige Heard,” the 34-year-old actress wrote in an emotional Instagram tribute to her mother. (The statement went on to say that it was not easy for Heard to lose his wife and mother of two young girls after all these years together. She said they have been happily married for 17 years.
“My family and I are heartbroken and lost without you. We love you so much and we appreciate your wisdom and always will. You never left this world with regrets — you lived life totally unencumbered. May you rest in peace.” the post continued.
In 2014, TMZ reported that Heard suffered from anxiety and depression as well as PTSD throughout her marriage to ex-husband Johnny Depp. The couple separated while he was working on movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The report claimed that the divorce resulted from their shared addiction to drugs, especially marijuana.
It is unknown what prompted Heard to seek legal advice from Dr. Samir Pardo, a psychiatrist who specializes in treating drug abuse disorders. After hearing about her former relationship with a recovering alcoholic with mental health issues, Heard felt there was a disconnect between the reality of her marriage and how she perceived herself.
“It’s something that I realized early in our relationship and that was one of the things that triggered me was going through therapy, but I didn’t even realize at that point that I needed help,” the TV star explained on Good Morning America.
In February 2016, Heard filed for divorce from Depp. Their separation lasted four years before ending when both the stars agreed to come back once again. In 2019, the pair were married at a private ceremony in Australia.
But recently Heard has admitted that their marriage was rocky in its initial stages. Speaking on the Howard Stern Show this past November, she opened up about having problems with some of Depp’s recent behavior, including harassing photographers and asking them to leave when they came to visit. Heard also said that the stress between the movie mogul’s drinking and her personal struggles as an athlete and actress meant a lot to her during those days.
She revealed she kept taking prescription medication after relapsing. It turned out she had severe insomnia and other psychiatric symptoms that made getting enough sleep tough. So she stayed off alcohol, and her doctor prescribed her Xanax.
“I’m probably most sober now because I take Xanax, which is very good medicine,” she told NBC News last December. “And I don’t know if I’d be alive today if I hadn’t tried it, knowing what I felt like.”
