An inexpensive outdoor security camera is the simplest way to get started if increasing your home’s security is a priority but money is a factor. Wyze is a well-known brand in the security industry because of its low prices and straightforward smart devices. In fact, they frequently rank high on our list of the best outdoor security cameras.
However, the business has its ups and downs. More on that in a moment, but as far as devices go, the Wyze Cam v3 Pro, their most recent wired indoor/outdoor security camera, is a decent low-cost outdoor camera. Cost and accessibility
The Cam v3 Pro costs $50 for a single camera or $96 for two, which is quite affordable. But availability is more important here. Wyze and other retailers are currently out of stock on this security camera, which appears to be a highly sought-after item.
Design, hardware, and what’s in the box
The Cam v3 Pro is very small. If you want to conceal your security camera, this is a great option that works right out of the box. Because it is a wired camera, you will need to plug it in somewhere in order to use it outside. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise at $50, but if you want this camera to be extremely discreet, you’ll need to conceal the cable.
If you want to screw it in place, it comes with a wall mount, a power adapter, a USB-C to HDMI cable, and a magnet. A microSD card is required if you want to expand the storage space.
The Cam v3 Pro does not come with an outdoor power adapter if you intend to use it outside; that is a small additional item that must be purchased separately. Also, the magnet isn’t meant to be used outside, so if you have the Cam v3 Pro on your front or back porch, you’ll need to mount it with the set that comes with it and use the right adapter to make it more weatherproof.
The camera has an IP65 rating, so it can withstand inclement weather; however, you don’t have to use it outside. It functions similarly indoors as a baby monitor or pet cam.
I put it to the test outdoors, even though it doesn’t come ready to use. I placed it just below the roof of the porch in a protected location from the elements. Therefore, the setup was successful unless it began to rain upward. The outdoor attachment is probably preferable if you don’t like taking risks.)
We decided not to drill any holes in the vinyl covering of our porch beams. Instead, we tested the magnetic strip, and it far outperformed our expectations. The wind chill factor was -15 degrees, and there were wind gusts of up to 35 miles per hour, but both the camera and the magnet held up to the sudden onset of cold weather. The heavy, metal chairs on my porch held up better than the Cam v3 Pro. One of the chairs was firmly anchored by the magnet.
The Cam v3 Pro passed the cold temperature test and should be able to function in harsh weather between -4 and 131 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 and 55 degrees Celsius). Although the magnet and adapter were not designed to be used outdoors, they were certainly effective. As a result, congrats on some excellent design.
Should you buy it?
The Cam v3 Pro is, in a nutshell, a pretty cool camera. It makes a decent security camera if you have everything you need, and the app and camera are simple to set up. The Cam Plus subscription is optional, but purchasing it will help you get the most out of your purchase.
The Wyze Cam v3 Pro is worth grabbing if you are able to get your hands on it and are just looking for a low-cost security option or pet monitor.
