The Cast and Characters of “Velma”: Who Will Play Velma in the Upcoming Scooby-Doo Movie? Mystery Inc. Casting Rumors Swirl

This week, HBO Max will premiere “Velma,” a brand-new, strictly adult take on the origins of the “Scooby-Doo” mythology. Made by Charlie Grandy and featuring his continuous colleague Mindy Kaling, this is a variant of the famous Saturday morning animation that you have never seen. Although the kids are all in high school and there are a lot of unsolved cases, this is essentially a brand-new show otherwise.

Even though the R-rated version of “Scooby-Doo” has a good premise, the show ultimately cares more about its characters than it does about the cheap thrills of showing blood, gore, and (implied) nudity.

However, speaking of those characters, who are they in “Velma?” No more searching!

Mindy Kaling portraying Velma Dinkley

This is a brand-new Velma! Velma, who is now an Indian American, has a very personal mystery at the heart of her story—her mother went missing and she is trying to figure out why—and she is now an Indian American.

Her obsession with resolving the mystery of her mother’s disappearance causes her to suffer from chronic anxiety attacks that take the form of ghostly visits. But are they simply panic attacks or supernatural phenomena? Kaling is best known for her work as a voice actor in Pixar films like “Inside Out” and “Wreck-It Ralph,” as well as the popular sitcoms “The Office” and “The Mindy Project.”

Constance Wu portrays Daphne Blake

An Asian American adoptee with lesbian parents (voiced by Jane Lynch and Wanda Sykes) this time around. She and Velma are at odds at the beginning of the series, and they are dealing with complicated feelings about popularity, the viciousness of high school, and maybe something… more romantic? Who can say? Constance Wu is most popular for her long-running ABC sitcom “New Off the Boat,” where she featured close by Randall Park, and the 2018 element “Insane Rich Asians.”

Glenn Howerton as Fred Jones

In “Velma” Fred isn’t simply the affable square that he was in the first emphasess; this time he is a ruined rich youngster (and infamous delayed prodigy) who can’t battle for him and who has episodes of dangerous outrage.

That last person’s quality terrains him in steaming hot water after a progression of bodies are found. Truth be told, Fred Jones is the police’s #1 suspect. The fact that Fred’s father is narrated by Frank Welker, who created the character in 1969, maybe the most entertaining aspect of Fred.

The long-running sitcom “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” is perhaps Howerton’s most well-known work. He also starred alongside Kaling in “The Mindy Project” and has provided voice work for “The Cleveland Show.” He also directed “A.P. Bio” on NBC.

Sam Richardson as Norville “Shaggy” Rogers

In “Velma,” Norville “Shaggy” Rogers, played by Sam Richardson, is no longer a hippie pothead! In fact, this new character, who goes by the name Norville, does not touch the material.

His dad is a specialist who has an otherworldly sweater (voiced by Gary Cole), that looks considerably more like the first-person plan. Additionally, he struggles to adequately express his romantic feelings for Velma (she believes he is joking). Most importantly, he does not have a dog!

Richardson has voiced characters on “M.O.D.O.K.,” “Harley Quinn,” “BoJack Horseman,” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” He most recently appeared on the Apple TV+ series “The Afterparty.” “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Low Depths” Additionally, he has appeared in films such as “Hocus Pocus 2,” “The Tomorrow War,” and “Promising Young Woman.”

Dandruff Tuba is played by “Weird Al” Yankovic

Yes, “Weird Al” is in this! Additionally, he portrays a nerdy high school musician. He is a talented singer-songwriter who is best known for his parody songs. However, he has also appeared in a few movies, including his own biopic, “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story”) and has numerous voice acting credits, including “The Simpsons,” “Adventure Time,” and “Teen Titans GO!,” among others. and “LEGO Star Wars Vacation for the Summer.” What a man!

Russell Peters as Aman Dinkley

Despite the fact that Velma’s parents were never really explored in the original “Scooby-Doo,” the show gives them both more depth. Her mother is missing (see above), and her father, played by Melissa Fumero, is a workaholic lawyer who lives in the house with a pregnant girlfriend who Velma despises.

Peters is an actor and standup comedian who recently appeared in “Clifford the Big Red Dog.” He was the first comedian to receive their own Netflix special. He’s likewise given voice work to “BoJack Horseman,” “Family Fellow” and, on the big screen, Jon Favreau’s “The Lion Ruler.”

Nicole Byer as Blythe Rogers

Blythe Rogers Shaggy’s mother, Nicole Byer, is also the principal of Crystal Cove High School (where she clearly disagrees with Velma). Nicole Byer, best known for her role as the host of Netflix’s hilarious baking show “Nailed It!,” provides the character’s voice. Byer also has a long list of roles as a voice actor, including, but not limited to, “Archer,” “BoJack Horseman,” and “The Bob’s Burgers Movie.”
