The MSI X99A Tomahawk is based on the latest Intel X99-E chipset for the latest Intel Core i7-6800K, i7-6900K, and the mighty i7-6950X. With 8 RAM slots, the MSI X99A Tomahawk supports up to 128 Gigabytes of DDR4 memory. The board also uses an 8-phase VRM.

Talking about the connectivity, the MSI X99A Tomahawk features 8 SATA 6 Gb/s ports and two USB 3.1 ports (one Type-C and one Type-A). The motherboard also has an M.2 slot and U.2 slot. The MSI X99A Tomahawk also has 8 USB 3.0 ports and eight USB 2.0 ports. For ethernet connection, it also has two gigabit ethernet ports powered by Intel controllers.

This motherboard features all-black PCB along with red and gray accents. The board also has three PCIe 3.0 x16 ports which are reinforced along with 2 PCIe 3.0 x1 ports.
