GSkill has just been killing the competition when it comes to maximizing the speed of DDR4 sticks. GSkill’s Trident Z lineup of memory has been very well known to push boundaries.
With the launch of Intel’s Skylake series of CPUs and AMD’s Ryzen CPUs, memory speed has become an important factor in gaining a few extra frames.Taiwanese overclocker Toppc was the man who was responsible for pushing GSkill’s memory modules to 5.5GHz. However it didn’t end there. The hardware was pretty hardcore as well.
Accompanied by Intel’s latest Core i7-7740K running on MSI X299 Gaming Pro Carbon AC, Toppc finally manage to break the record. G.SKILL Corporate Vice President, Tequila Huang said:
“DDR4 5.5GHz has been our next target after we achieved DDR4 5GHz last year. We are extremely excited to finally make it happen together with Samsung components, MSI X299 motherboard, and Intel Core X-series processor. We are seeing amazing overclocking potential for these newly released hardware and we believe that more overclocking benchmark records will be achieved very soon by professional overclockers worldwide”
Indeed an impressive overclock and yet another record in the hands of MSI and GSkill. Perhaps the improvements from Intel’s new CPUs could improve overclocks a bit. But let’s wait, that’s for another day to decide.
