Snapchat Introduces Live Location Share Filter for Its Users; Now Users Can Share Image Locations to Their Friends

Recently, Snapchat introduces a live location sharing filter for its users. Now users can share their location for 15 minutes or several hours with their mutual friends. This real-time location sharing filter is supposed to work as an online buddy while friends and family are at the home. After almost 2 years of Covid lockdown, finally, people are leaving their homes and going on dates, joining work, or going shopping; so it’s very important for them to inform their family members of their location and a Snapchat live location filter will help them with it.

Snapchat Posted a tweet about this new feature, “Make sure you and your friend get home safely with temporarily location sharing”. Snapchat already had a location sharing filter where people can share their locations though it is not a live location.

Snapchat has over 319 million monthly active users around the world with 20% growth per year. It has become a quick messaging platform for so many users. The company uses “World lenses” and “Augmented reality” technology for capturing any life moment with your smartphone camera, it will also help to send live location. This new live location filter is known as “Geofilters”.

Well before Snapchat, Whatsapp also provides the same location sharing feature among contacts, Find My Phone app in Ios also gives the same use. Though this is new for Snapchat users. For safety propose, users can stop sharing their location, the other party won’t be notified. Users don’t have to share their live location to the whole friends list, they can select their mutual friends.

According to Snapchat Blog, This feature will help the individual feel safe and connected with their friends. They have conducted a survey, most of the Snapchat users are college-going students. Since colleges are reopening, students can easily share their live location with their fellow friends and after reaching the destination, the users can turn it off. They are launching this new tool as a part of the partnership with “It’s On Us”, a nonprofit organization. When the user will use this for the time a safety notice will pop up which will inform the Snapchat community, alerting them they can only share this with a few selective people. For safety measures, the location setting is off in the setting.

According to the company, They are launching new resources for parents with the collaboration of Mind Up. It will take parents through a series of modules about digital education as it’s a digital course.

According to the company, this location sharing feature will help them to avoid stalking and harmful activities as well as it will ensure their online security.

They also said that if a user sees any kind of abusive and harmful behavior in Snap report that accounts to them. They want to make Snapchat a safe place for users so they want everyone’s support and participation.
