“There’s absolutely room for expansion. I had conversations in passing about [how] the DMZ is a huge world. It’s a world that’s predicated on either self-reclamation or reinvention itself, which means that it’s full of incredible characters. I think, in any case, the limited series is sort of four-hour movie experience is the right format for any of these other stories and I have plenty of stories to tell about the DMZ. The answer is ‘absolutely.’ There’s the good fortune to continue to live in the DMZ.”
DMZ adapts the comic series by Vertigo and follows the themes that inspired it. HBO has shown itself willing to forego second seasons of popular shows: just ask fans for Watchmen or Lovecraft Country. For another, while it’s only been a few days since the release and I don’t see DMZ reaching that level either but there are still four episodes left so we’ll have our answer soon enough!
The network dumped all those files on Thursday which does not make them seem confident about its success. For one, it’s been well-received by fans of the comics and they’ve already been vocal on social media in support of the series. Secondly, even if ratings are low, HBO has a vested interest in keeping its library strong so that it can be relied on for future seasons and premieres.
Well, we’ll just have to wait and see. Maybe the show will be a huge hit! Fans might demand another season if that happens so stay tuned for news on this front (or whatever).
