According to a Source, Xbox Live Gold Could Be Paired With Game Pass as Microsoft Attempts to Hike Subscription Prices.

Now that Sony has dealt the membership equivalent of being the odd man out with PS Now, Microsoft appears to be considering doing the same with Xbox Live Gold.

We’ve heard rumours for years that Microsoft might discontinue Xbox Live Gold, but a recent report implies that this could happen shortly. Microsoft, on the other hand, does not appear to be totally deleting Xbox Live Gold.

Instead, according to Brad Sams of Microsoft, the company would merge Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass to create a $15-per-month “baseline” membership.

What’s remarkable about Sams’ statement is that Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass are already included in a single $15 membership. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is a $14.99-per-month subscription that includes all of Microsoft’s less expensive programmes, as well as EA Play and the odd freebie.

If what Sams claims is true, and Microsoft intends to use a $15 monthly membership as the basic pricing, both Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will see a price increase.

Users will have to pay $9.99 per month for Xbox Game Pass and $9.99 per month for Xbox Live Gold. As a result, some gamers choose the Ultimate option solely to save $5 and gain access to more than just the Game Pass and Gold combined features.

In a perfect world, a “revamped” Xbox Game Pass with Xbox Live Gold would cost only $15, with Microsoft increasing the price of the Ultimate by at least $5. However, Sams’ comment about the new foundation being the “only tier” indicates that Ultimate would be phased out, which is absurd given that it is still a decent value despite the price hike.

Last week, Sony unveiled their “competitor,” PlayStation Plus, which, although not a genuine direct competitor, is on-brand with PlayStation. Microsoft, on the other hand, recently announced that it had spent “hundreds of millions” on Game Pass, with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy apparently costing the company $10 million.

Finally, according to a reliable source, Microsoft is planning to create an Xbox Game Pass Family package that would allow up to five people to access its huge library at a lesser cost than individual memberships.

According to reports, Microsoft is considering raising the prices of its video game subscription services, Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass. To do so, the business is rumoured to be preparing to sell them as a package, resulting in a new base pricing.

According to journalist Brad Sams, Microsoft has been seeking for a solution to preserve Xbox Live Gold revenue while simultaneously attracting additional customers to the Game Pass. “I’ve heard that Microsoft is considering raising the pricing of these packages to include Gold so that $15 a month becomes the new norm, meaning you get Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold,” Sams said.

According to Sams, the “new tier” and new pricing might be implemented once Microsoft completes its takeover of Activision Blizzard. The all-cash $68.7 billion agreement was announced in January and is anticipated to be completed in 18 months if approved by the government.

Previously, Xbox Live Gold was required to play all multiplayer games on Xbox. However, after revealing a price increase for the programme last year, Microsoft received flak.

“We messed up today, and you were right to let us know,” the corporation swiftly cancelled the offer and told customers. Microsoft removed the requirement for an Xbox Live Gold membership to play free-to-play multiplayer games including “Fortnite,” “Call of Duty: Warzone,” “Destiny 2,” and “Apex Legends” a few months after the apology.

It’s unclear whether Microsoft will formally offer the new $15-per-month option that combines Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass. If it becomes a reality, the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate may see a price change as well.

The flagship gaming membership tier costs $15 per month and includes access to the Game Pass library, Xbox Live Gold and EA Play subscriptions, and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Sams alluded to the prospective bundled service as a “new tier,” but it’s unclear how that would alter the present Xbox Live Gold and Xbox/PC Game Pass availability and pricing. Both of these subscriptions are $10 per month.
