Instagram is testing out ways to make hashtags more valuable by adjusting how top posts ranked on hashtag pages. Now, recent and timely content will be surfaced in the section that curates popular tags; previously it was separated into its tab—meaning “top” could include material published weeks or months ago
Instagram is making some changes to its platform in an effort “to make [the] experience better and more meaningful.” The company has removed the ” Recent” tab, replacing it with two other tabs: Top and Reels (which will remain unchanged). They also hope that by increasing engagement levels through this change users can create hashtags that are worth something – who knows what though?
People love using hashtags on Instagram, but do they make a difference? One study found that changing how top posts rank can drive more engagement.
Hashtag Pages More Recently Updated Content On Instagram
Instagram’s communications team made the following statement about the new policy: “The goal is to make Instagram a place where people feel comfortable sharing their true selves with others. As part of this effort, we’ve moved to update our community guidelines and Terms of Use to better reflect how users want to post on Instagram.”
- “We’re trying out some new things to make hashtags as valuable as possible for people. A few weeks ago, we rolled out Destinations which helps connect people to more information around social causes, and now, we’re going to try something new.
- For a small group, we’re testing more recent and timely content in the ‘Top’ and ‘Reels’ tabs in hashtags and removing the ‘Recent’ tab. We want to see if this helps people connect with more interesting and relevant content on hashtags, while also keeping them across what’s current.“
Instagram has given us a glimpse into the future with its new hashtag pages. They look exactly like your regular feed but instead of having Recent posts listed on top, all you’ll see is a list of hashtags that have been used in recent uploads or conversations across other users’ accounts!
Instagram has been testing a new feature that puts recent, high-quality content at your fingertips when you search for specific hashtags.
The old design could see outdated or low-quality posts in those searches which is not the case anymore with this update!
