Batman: Arkham Origins Takes Fast-Travel Almost Directly into Gotham Knights

The Fast Bat fast-travel system from Gotham Knights is comparable to the Batwing Drop Point fast-travel system from WB Games Montreal’s Batman: The Arkham Series.

Before Gotham Knights, WB Games Montreal played Batman: Arkham Origins, a game that came out nearly nine years ago. Batman: Because it is the only Arkham tetralogy game that was not developed by Rocksteady, Arkham Origins belongs to the Arkhamverse canon. In a similar vein, it probably worked on Batman: After Arkham Origins, WB Games Montreal was given the task of making another game about Batman or DC.

\As a result, it should not come as a surprise to see Batman-related features: Gotham Knights features a rerun of Arkham Origins. This is the case with its system of fast travel.

Strangely, Gotham Knights have already had to deal with constant comparisons to the other Arkham games in Rocksteady’s universe. These comparisons include the possible lack of fluidity in Gotham Knights’ open-world Gotham City combat or the possible lack of detail and content density in Gotham Knights.

However, its fast-travel system appears to be connected to Batman’s: The Arkham Series. It is evident, in what appears to be the only animation seen so far that is shared by both games, that Batman: Gotham Knights’ structure for fast travel was influenced by Arkham Origins.

Batman: The Arkham Origins Batwing is the blueprint for quick travel.

In Batman, in order to travel quickly: In Arkham Origins, each Gotham City district’s relay network towers must first be unlocked. This can be difficult because progression-locked access to network towers prevents players from navigating a particular tower until certain story points have been reached.

However, once a tower is unlocked, the Batwing Drop Point icon on the map can be used to quickly travel to it from any location. This sets off a cutscene in which Batman grabs the Batwing, dive-bombs back toward the city, then briefly flies through a snowstorm as the area fills up. This makes use of the unique gliding system found in the Arkham universe. To gain momentum and speed, players dive bomb and then rear up with Batman’s cape spread out.

The Drop Animation of the Batwing and the Fast Bat from Gotham Knights are nearly identical.

Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, and Red Hood cannot use Batman’s plane to travel in Gotham Knights. Instead, they fly to the point where they want to travel quickly using a back-mounted device known as the Fast Bat. They are then gently dropped from the jet-propelled vehicle as it disappears into thin air in the same dive-bomb style.

This is arguably acceptable for the sake of gameplay convenience because it is comparable to how characters’ Batcycles in Gotham Knights suddenly appear and disappear at the player’s command. Whatever the case may be, the vast open world of Gotham Knights makes it abundantly clear that fast travel will play a significant role in the game. However, if unique traversal methods and the Batcycle are truly satisfying, fast travel in Gotham Knights will hopefully only be a convenient feature.

WB Games Montreal is getting ready to release its most recent game since Batman: Gotham Knights and Arkham Origins are coming later this month. It will be interesting to see if any other animated features or animations have been inspired by Batman when it comes out: The Arkham Series.
