From December 28, 1958, until March 29, 2020, Joe Logan Diffie was an American country music performer and songwriter. Midway through the 1980s, he worked as a demo vocalist before signing with the Nashville subsidiary of Epic Records in 1990. Between then and 2004, Diffie charted 35 new tracks on the Billboard Hot Country Album charts, five of which reached the top spot: his first single, Home.

If the Devil Danced In Empty Pockets; Third Rock from the Sun; Pickup Man, his longest-lasting number-one song at four weeks; and Bigger Than the Beatles. In addition to these successes, he has had ten more songs reach the top 40 and another ten reach the top 10 on the same list. Additionally, he co-wrote tunes for Holly Dunn and Tim McGraw.

Under the Epic label, Diffie released seven studio albums, a holiday album, and a collection of their best songs. Additionally, he issued one studio album through Rounder Records, Broken Bow Records, and Monument Records, respectively. He became the first country popular musician to have a world’s leading debut single on all 3 charts, as well as the first to have a debut single stay at the top of the charts for longer than a week at the latter two publications when the song also debuted at number one on the country music charts produced by Radio & Records and Gavin Report.

If You Want Me To and New Way To Light Up an Old Flame, the second and fourth singles from the album that Diffie co-wrote, both peaked at number two on the Billboard charts, with the former reaching the top spot on the RPM country music charts in Canada. If the Devil Danced In Empty Pockets, which came between these two songs, became Diffie’s second Billboard number one.

On the Top Country Albums chart, the album itself reached position 23. In late 1990, while on tour with George Strait and Steve Wariner, Diffie also gave his debut performances. Cash Box recognized him as Male Vocalist of the Year in the same year. Livin’ on What’s Left of Your Love and Memory Lane, which appeared on labelmate Keith Palmer’s debut album in 1991, were co-written by Diffie.
