Weird: The Al Yankovic Story
It is an American biographical comedy film that is directed by Eric Appel. The film stars Daniel Radcliffe as Yankovic, with Evan Rachel Wood, Rainn Wilson, Toby Huss, and Julianne Nicholson in supporting roles. Al Yankovic is an American comedian, singer, musician, and actor, who rose to fame as a parody artist.
In the storyline Yankovic grows up in a strict household where playing the accordion is sinful but his love of the instrument leads him to rebel against his suffocating parents to become a world-famous accordion shredding musician also as a torrid love affair with Madonna and experiences the destructive rock star lifestyle as a relatable change.
Yankovic and Appel have blended the strangeness of Weird Al with the bad boy image as seen in the teaser though the self-destruction of famous rockers like Tommy Lee or Sid Vicious is also significantly portrayed.
Yankovic and Eric Appel wrote the film in collaboration with Funny or Die alum directing after mounting a short film for the company in 2010. Pic’s producers are Yankovic, Mike Farah, Joe Farrell, and Whitney Hodack for Funny or Die and Tim Headington, Lia Buman, and Max Silva for Tango.
Roku has revealed that the film Weird: The Al Yankovic Story will premiere on The Roku Channel on November 4 which also revealed a new poster for the music biopic, starring Daniel Radcliffe. Weird: The Al Yankovic Story will stream for free this fall exclusively on The Roku Channel as we got a glimpse from his signature Hawaiian shirt to mustache as Radcliffe checks all the boxes in the release way.
As the storyline follows Radcliffe will portray the king of parody during a time of his life when he lived an excessive lifestyle and pursued an infamous romance that nearly destroyed him as the story proceeds.
The movie is co-written, produced, and directed by Yankovic highlighting how he became the world’s biggest parody singer. Yankovic started his career in the late 1970s while releasing his first self-titled album in 1983. Yankovic’s 1986 Madonna parody is like a Surgeon feature as the trailer soundtrack was released as a wave with the aim to achieve distant dreams.
The film features Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna, and Rainn Wilson as radio broadcaster Dr. Demento for a three-time Emmy nominee Quinta Brunson which is signed on to portray Oprah Winfrey.
Roku shared the movie trailer at its NewsFronts presentation at the Chelsea Factory in New York City last week for promotions and Danielle Radcliffe also appeared in the promotional event.
