The countdown has come to a close, ushering in the newest installment of the Street Fighter franchise.
The Capcom countdown clock has struck zero after a week of waiting. Capcom has officially revealed Street Fighter 6 after a full seven days of speculation around the gaming industry, including from the crew here at Shacknews. However, in a narrative twist, although some expected a new Street Fighter, Capcom had a second huge surprise that no one saw coming.
The announcement of Street Fighter 6 comes after an incredible Capcom Pro Tour 2021 Season Final demonstration weekend. Since it went up nearly precisely one week ago, the gaming world has been watching the Capcom countdown website. The countdown website has been redirected to the Street Fighter 6 official website.
The greatest news here is that the next Street Fighter appears to be based on the RE Engine, as seen by the incredibly realistic-looking Ryu, but Capcom has yet to confirm this. The camera zoomed out to see the long-time face of the brand facing off against Luke, who Capcom has previously suggested will play a significantly larger part in the upcoming Street Fighter.

There isn’t much information available for Street Fighter 6 right now. Even Capcom-Unity, which usually divulges more information, appears to be keeping quiet about this project. More information about the game will be released later this summer. Meanwhile, the development team promises that the final balancing patch for Street Fighter 5 Champion Edition will be released in March.
Street Fighter 6 is unlikely to be ready for release in 2022, but weirder things have happened. We’ll be keeping an eye on this topic throughout the year, so stay tuned to Shacknews for the most up-to-date information on the Capcom countdown clock. However, it was not the only announcement made tonight. Unexpectedly, a new collection of fighting games was also shown. Check out our post on the Capcom Fighting Collection for additional information.
The report is provided by industry insider and leaker Jeff Grubb (via Giant Bomb), who sadly does not provide much more in the study. Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that Grubb makes no mention of a release date or platforms. Previous speculations and scuttlebutt have led to the discovery of platforms and a 2022 release date. Grubb is a well-known and respected source who has previously properly delivered a variety of information. However, he has been incorrect in the past, and everything here, even if correct, is subject to change.
At the time of publication, Capcom has not responded to this report or any other rumors concerning the countdown website in any way. We don’t expect this to alter for a number of reasons, but if it does, we’ll make the necessary changes to the table.
