Gilbert Gottfried, a comedian, died at the age of 67, according to his family.
“After a long illness, we are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried,” his family said in a statement posted to his Twitter account.
Gilbert Gottfried, a well-known American actor and stand-up comedian who was noted for his distinctive voice, has passed away. He was 67 years old at the time.
According to Glenn Schwartz, Gottfried’s longtime friend and publicist, Gottfried died on Tuesday at 2:35 p.m. ET from Recurrent Ventricular Tachycardia caused by Myotonic Dystrophy type II.
Gottfried, who has been doing stand-up comedy for over 50 years, earned the moniker “the comedian’s comedian” “because his live performances put aside political correctness while delivering gags that know no bounds,” according to a statement from his representative.

In addition to “Beverly Hills Cop II,” “Problem Child,” “Look Who’s Talking II,” and “The Aristocrats,” his comedic career landed him roles in “Beverly Hills Cop III,” “Problem Child,” “Look Who’s Talking II,” and “The Aristocrats.” In Disney’s renowned animated feature “Aladdin,” he voiced the wise-cracking parrot, Iago.
“Although it is a terrible day for all of us,” the statement added, “please keep laughing as loudly as possible in Gilbert’s honor.”
On Tuesday, fellow comedians were taken aback by the news.
In 2017, he was the subject of the documentary “Gilbert,” which chronicled his life. He also co-hosted “Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast!” with Frank Santopadre, in which they interviewed Hollywood celebrities and idols.
His family described him as a “wonderful husband, brother, friend, and father to his two young children,” as well as “comedy’s most iconic voice.”

On Tuesday, actor Jason Alexander was among those who expressed their sorrow.

In 1985, Conan O’Brien recalls witnessing Gottfried perform.

We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of this wonderful and fabulously hilarious man.”
Gottfried is survived by his wife Dara, 14-year-old daughter Lily, 12-year-old son Max, and nephew Graham.
