Once Xbox Game Pass started in 2017, it revolutionized the gaming industry. To emulate the success of Netflix, Xbox Game Pass allowed subscribers to play hundreds of games for an affordable monthly price, many of them unplayable. Since the beginning, competitors have popped up here and there to grab a slice of the pie, but none have the scale or reputation that Microsoft has to offer.
Previous this year, Microsoft’s biggest rival Sony launched its PlayStation Plus service as a contender to GamePass, but unfortunately, it was relatively failed. PS Plus Premium has several benefits over Game Pass, but Sony’s lack of game offerings and create brand loyalty makes it an uphill battle.
Same day release with Game Pass
Game Pass was innovative when it initially started. Microsoft is treating the service like the present edition of PS Plus Premium, offering number over quality. But as Xbox Game Pass moves into new markets, PlayStation Plus is a thing of the past.
The old, wistful games are a nice touch but pale in comparability to Microsoft’s offerings. Over time, Game Pass has moderated and delivered premium games and content without rearing prices, something Sony should do earlier or later.
The greatest benefit of Game Pass is the first day of release. From small indie games to big AAA franchises, Microsoft has made it a priority to make as many games as feasible available on Game Pass at once. As Game Pass grew, game studios saw the advantages of a built-in audience. Due to its incorporation in Game Pass, Forza Horizon 5 was the biggest release in Xbox history at the time.
Sony’s MLB The Show 22 was also released as Game Pass at the same time as the launch. PS Plus doesn’t come close to Xbox Game Pass when Sony offers one of its most famous domestic titles. Somewhat than hope that this will change, Sony has announced that PS Plus will not mark the first day of release and there are no instant plans to change.
Watching at the raw numbers, it’s the net worth of any company that can affect Sony. According to Yahoo!, all of Microsoft’s products, in and out of gaming, were valued at $2.11 trillion at the time of writing. Financially, matched Sony’s relatively small $108.94 billion. Sony could smoothly put premium games on PS Plus right away, but it might be more difficult to get full executive consent.
It’s easier for Microsoft to eat the initial cost of its popular game and turn it into a long-term profit from subscription fees. Talking about money in the gaming industry and Microsoft has more money than anybody else.
