Maks Chmerkovskiy went live on Instagram to talk about his plans in Poland and his Baranova27 fundraiser to help Ukrainians in need.
Maks Chmerkovskiy has returned to Europe amid Russia’s escalating invasion of Ukraine to assist those in need.

The Dancing with the Stars pro went live on Instagram Sunday from Warsaw, Poland, telling viewers that he was “fine” and “enjoyed some of that Los Angeles sunshine” after returning from Ukraine earlier this month.
He then provided an update on Baranova27, a nonprofit organization for Ukrainian humanitarian relief named after the Odesa, Ukraine address where he, his brother Val Chmerkovskiy, and their father were born. Since its inception on March 10, the GoFundMe campaign has garnered more than $138,000 in donations.
“We’ve been working hard to make Baranova27 something that, as huge as it got, can keep going,” Chmerkovskiy added.
During the 14-minute Instagram Live, Chmerkovskiy also stated that the devastation caused by the ongoing war “didn’t end, or slow down – it grew worse in Ukraine.””
“I want everyone to grasp what that means because everything happened quickly, was terrible, was global, and everything,” he explained.”But things are becoming worse right now. The humanitarian crisis is worsening. People’s injuries are worsening, there are more people injured, and there are more people affected.”
Chmerkovskiy said, commenting on the situation in Poland: “These cities are running out of room. This is a genuine issue. A few communities have already stated that they will not welcome any additional refugees. Currently, I’m in Warsaw, in the heart of the city, and everything is Ukrainian. Everyone is a refugee.”
The news comes two weeks after the actor told CNN that he wants to return to Eastern Europe to help Ukrainians in need.
Russia’s assault on Ukraine continues after its military started a large-scale invasion on February 24 – Europe’s first serious land conflict in decades.
Details of the fighting alter by the day, but hundreds of people, including children, have already been reported killed or injured. According to the UN, millions of Ukrainians have left as well.
“You have no idea where to go, where to run, or who to call. “This is sheer panic,” Liliya Marynchak, a 45-year-old tutor from Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine, told a person about the moment her community was attacked — one of the multiple Russian bombardment stories.
The invasion, ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin, has elicited widespread outrage and increased economic penalties on Russia.
With NATO forces massing in the region surrounding Ukraine, several countries have committed aid or military support to the struggle. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for peace talks, which have so far been ineffective, while also pushing his country to fight back.
Putin, 69, maintains that Ukraine has historical links to Russia and that he is working in his country’s best security interests. Zelenskyy, 44, has pledged not to budge.
“Nobody can break us, we’re strong, we’re Ukrainians,” he assured the European Union in the early days of the conflict, adding, “Life will triumph over death.” And the light will triumph over the darkness.”
