With LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Brent Spiner joining the last season of ‘Picard,’ there will be a ‘Next Generation’ reunion.
Star Trek: Picard has always been a homage to Star Trek: The Next Generation or at the very least a response to the themes and narratives of that popular franchise (less “things sure were great back then” and more “were things really all that great back then?”),in this season there will be fan-favorite characters.
However, when the show returns for its third season, even more, old Star Trek friends will join the cast: According to Deadline, LeVar Burton, Gates McFadden, and Michael Dorn, as well as Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, and the abovementioned Brent Spiner (who has already appeared on the program) would all appear in Picard’s third season.
We presume Burton, McFadden, and Dorn will all reprise their roles from Star Trek: The Next Generation, with Burton playing Geordi La Forge, McFadden as Dr. Beverly Crusher, and Dorn as the Klingon Worf.
On this, the pre-anniversary of First Contact Day (which won’t happen for several few decades), Paramount+ had more Picard news to give. The streaming site also verified long-held speculations that Picard would end after the third season, implying that this TNG reunion could be the final chance for Star Trek fans to see the entire crew together.
Fortunately, there are plenty of other Star Trek options on Paramount+, so there’s no need to rush out and watch anything that isn’t about Star Trek just yet.
(Because this is a Star Trek news item, we can safely comment that Disney+’s Star Wars offerings have been hit-or-miss without fear of being swarmed by lightsaber toys the next time we step outdoors.)
Patrick Stewart will bid Jean-Luc Picard farewell, but at least a few of his pals will also be present.
LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Brent Spiner, who co-starred with Stewart on The Next Generation, will join him in the upcoming third season of Picard, Paramount+ said Tuesday.
Terry Matalas, season 3 showrunner, and executive producer commented, “I recall watching the debut of Star Trek: The Next Generation with my father almost 34 years ago like it was yesterday.” “It was the catalyst that sparked my interest in science fiction.”
As a result, it’s only natural that Jean-Luc Picard’s journey closes with his fondest and most devoted comrades from the USS Enterprise. To say that giving these individuals a proper send-off is an honor is an understatement. The entire Star Trek: Picard team and I can’t wait for fans to see the third season’s final, high-stakes, starship-bound adventure!”
Spiner (Data), Frakes (William Riker), and Sirtis (Deanna Troi) have all appeared as guests on Picard before, but Burton (Geordi La Forge) and For the first time, McFadden (Beverly Crusher) will be reconnected with their previous Enterprise commander.
There will be ten episodes in the final season.
Picard’s second season is now available on Paramount+, and it follows Picard as he battles his immortal foe Q (John de Lancie), who has trapped him and his crew in another world.
