Fans of South Park who weren’t successful in getting tickets for the series’ 25th-anniversary performance at Red Rocks next month won’t have to miss the celebration after all.
The two-night event, which will take place on August 9 and 10, at the storied outdoor Colorado amphitheater and feature performances by Primus and Ween in addition to showing creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, will be recorded and shown on Comedy Central and Paramount+.
The show’s theme tune by Primus will be performed at the concert, which marks the cartoon sitcom’s 25th anniversary and debuts on Comedy Central on August 13 and will be streamed the next day on Paramount+. Although it’s unknown if any special guests will show up during the concert, Parker and Stone are South Park fans, so anything may happen.
For a variety of reasons, the pair holds Red Rocks in high regard. At the University of Colorado Boulder, where they initially met, they came up with the idea for the show while making a quick, raunchy, and hilarious VHS Christmas card.
In addition to being a known concert setting, Red Rocks are also where a friend of the duo, using a handheld tape recorder, managed to get Les Claypool of Primus to record a new version of the theme song lyrics after Comedy Central deemed the first one to be too slow.
Following the release of the fourth South Park made-for-TV movie this month, the performance takes place. The series’ return to weekly episodes in 2022, after having been off the air in that format since 2019, was also major news for the animated sitcom.
Comedy Central announced on Wednesday that the South Park 25th Anniversary Concert will be available on demand the day after the event. The event, which is planned to take place at the legendary Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater on Saturday, August 13, 2022, will be accessible to stream on Paramount+ the following day, on Sunday, August 14. Trey Parker and Matt Stone, as well as Primus and Ween, who recorded the theme song for the cartoon series, will perform at the event.
The concert, which was captured on camera in Colorado at the iconic Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, honors the crucial part that music has played in the series since its premiere 25 years ago.
