Nobody ever envisioned a time when Luffy vs. Shanks would be discussed. For one thing, we have yet to see Shank fight and only know what he is capable of through grapevines. His Haki command is said to be so good that he can compete with Kaido without a Devil Fruit. And so it was with Gol D.
Rogers, defeated all who stood in his way via Haki alone. Not to add that Shanks was his apprentice and knew Haki’s techniques better than Luffy or any other pirate. Luffy vs. Shanks: The Promise of 25 Years
The story opens with Shanks gifting Luffy the straw hat and Luffy prepared to set sail with his devil fruit. Shanks also had Luffy pledge that he would improve and see him again in the future. That man, now Yonko, has kept his vow and hasn’t seen his little pal since. In many circumstances, though, he is out of bounds.
We’ve just heard about his accomplishments or abilities, but we’ve never seen him battle. Even while Luffy was fighting Kaido, Kaido considered Shanks to be one of the few people who could defeat him. But here’s the killer: Shanks lacks a devil fruit! This begs the question of how Luffy.
Who would win in a fight between Luffy and Shanks?
The issue about One Piece is that you never know who will win in a fight like this. Some could predict that Luffy will win the Luffy VS Shanks battle, while others would dismiss them. However, given Luffy’s winning record, it won’t be farfetched to imagine he can defeat Shanks one-on-one, though he will have to work for it.

Luffy vs. Shanks will be fought for one cause only: One Piece. What that object is is unclear in the plot, but Oda has brought it back into focus. However, this will take a long time. The Wano Arc has concluded as of the writing of this article, and we are on our way to the last arc.
The journey is finally nearing to an end, and we’ve been told that a great conflict will erupt before the catastrophic showdown. Though Shanks has been guiding Luffy since the beginning, the moment they face each other in a showdown will go down in anime history as one of the best.
