When Pokemon Red and Blue first came out in 1996, there were 15 different sorts of the games’ namesake animals. Two of them were of the Fire and Fighting types, like Charizard and Mankey, respectively. The types gradually increased to as many as 18 over time, but Fire-type and Fighting-type gained notoriety for an intriguing reason.
Players that selected Torchic, Chimchar, or Tepig as their beginning Pokemon in the third, fourth, and fifth generations of the game would have some fairly intriguing alternatives in the game’s middle stages. At the end of their evolutionary chain, each of these Pokemon would develop into a Fire/Fighting-type.
Players who have dealt with all three have been forced to support their pick the same way throughout three new games in a row because some fans prefer one starter type in every new release out of loyalty. Many fans now despise the notion of any further Fire/Fighting types being introduced to the game because of this, however, circumstances have changed since Pokemon Black and White.
Many fans fear the possibility of future games featuring any Fire/Fighting-type starter Pokemon after three generations in a row included this Pokemon. Many fans were afraid that Incineroar and Cinderace would be yet another animal to join the ranks of Blaziken, Infernape, and Emboar.
Many players joke that if it weren’t for the stigma surrounding Fire/Fighting-types, the Fire-type starters of Alola and Galar would have evolved into Fire/Dark and solely Fire-types, respectively.
However, many fans have missed something very crucial due to the unfavorable reputation that these generations have given the Fire/Fighting dual-type combo. Even if some fans wish there were no more Fire/Fighting-type Pokemon and regret how Torchic, Chimchar, and Tepig’s last evolutionary lines turned out, there are only three Fire/Fighting-type Pokemon in the whole series.
While it makes sense to want greater variety in dual-type combinations for starters, it almost seems like some players have overstated the number of Pokemon that fit that particular type combination. This may become more obvious given how the series intends to proceed and the monsters that are offered in other games.
Fans could easily import their starter from their respective games into more recent releases if they wanted to play with one of the three Fire/Fighting-type starts back when they were a huge worry for players.
This was one of the main reasons why many fans at the time disliked the idea of so many Fire-type starters becoming Fighting-type as well. The amount of Fire/Fighting-type Pokemon is now less plentiful because Pokemon Sword and Shield abolished the National Dex and restricted which species could be imported into each game.
As players might capture a Fire-type monster in the wild and cause it to evolve into a Fire/Fighting-type in a way that a starter could never do, such as through friendship or a unique item, it would also add an element of surprise back to the combo. Simply wait and see if this type of combination is applied in any novel or intriguing ways in upcoming releases, players.
