“Diabolical,” an animated anthology show based in the same world as Amazon Prime’s successful superhero drama “The Boys,” has received an eight-episode acquisition. During one of Amazon Prime Video’s Comic-Con Experience 2021, actor Karl Urban, who plays Billy Butcher in “The Boys,” posted a clip confirming the production.
“There is no question that you guys are the greatest fans in the world,” Urban stated in the announcement. “As a special way of saying thank you to you, we’ve got a little surprise for you which is going to drop early next year… [Producers Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg] have asked a few of their celebrity mates to cook up eight deliciously unique, twisted, animated episodes set in the world of ‘The Boys.’”
In “Diabolical,” you’ll find stories from Garth Ennis, and Awkwafina as well as Eliot and Simon Racippo, Ilana Glazer, Ben Bayouth, Justin Roiland, Aisha Tyler, Justin Roiland, and Andy Samberg. Besides acting, Rogen and Goldberg are also authors.
“Surprise! We’re almost finished with eight episodes of our animated series, ‘Diabolical,’” executive producer Eric Kripke said in a statement. “We gathered together some incredible creators and we gave them one rule… just kidding, there are no rules. They blew the doors off it, delivering eight completely unexpected, funny, shocking, gory, moist, emotional episodes. You think ‘The Boys’ is nuts? Wait till you see this.”
Goldberg and Rogen also shared a statement saying-
“Ever since we saw the animated film ‘The Animatrix,’ a series of short animated films set in the universe of ‘The Matrix,’ we’ve wanted to rip it off. Today that dream has come true.”
Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Simon Racioppa, James Weaver, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Ori Marmur, Ken F. Levin, Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Michaela Starr, Loreli Alans, and Ben Kalina are all executive producers on “Diabolical.”
Diabolical is produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Television Studios, along with Kripke Enterprises, Titmouse, Point Grey Pictures, and Original Film. ” Netflix will air the “Diabolical” animated show in 2022.
“The Boys” is based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s best-selling comic book series of the same name. Kripke serves as showrunner and executive producer. However, Amazon Prime Video has yet to announce a release date for Season 3 of the highly acclaimed and Emmy-nominated tv adaptation.
