According to Bloody Disgusting, one of the year’s most exciting initial horrors is on its way to digital. Barbarian, written and directed by Zach Cregger, will be available for purchase on all major online platforms and 4K Ultra HD on October 25, just in time for your Halloween movie marathon. The release also includes previously unseen bonus footage and special features with or something content.
Cregger’s debut tragedy piqued interest before its theatrical release with a tense trailer packed with crazy and familiar tropes. The elements of a twice-booked Airbnb, a mysterious stranger, and a foreboding basement are all familiar to audiences, but initial reviews had the internet buzzing. The trailer does not prepare anyone for the tone shifts and twists that Barbarian takes, and you’ll be able to snag it for a second or third viewing to fully appreciate the turmoil that ensues. This October, 20th Century Studios as well as New Regency will make this new spooky vital part available on digital platforms.
The clip from the special featurette shows a few behind-the-scenes takes with leading lady Georgina Campbell, and also Justin Long and Bill Skarsgard. Cregger discusses the importance of casting in the film, particularly in this film. The director explains why Skarsgard was the ideal choice for the role of Barbarian because of his “good-looking and off-putting” personality, and if you think you already know.
Tess (Campbell) arrives late one stormy night at her reservation rental home in Detroit, only to discover that the key is missing. Though frustrating, the mishap turns out to be the best thing to occur on her business trip but when Keith (Skarsgard) opens the door, one‘s brutal adventure begins. Tess decides to stay the night instead of respectfully refusing and driving away. Unfortunately, she soon discovers that stranger danger is not the only red flag in this house.
The digital release includes the entire exclusive featurette, as well as deleted scenes that appear to enlarge more on Tess’s rocky relationship, which we only saw glimpses of, and more about the house’s… previous tenants. What’s in it:
