Mike Flanagan To Take Stephen King Adaptations, Know The Details

Other Stephen King Adaptations Mike Flanagan Should Take.

In recent years, writer and director Mike Flanagan have made a name for himself by perfectly adapting literary stories into films and miniseries.

He has his Netflix deal and series like The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and The Midnight Club have received critical acclaim. Also, his adaptation of The Fall of House Usher is in the works. It’s safe to say that Flanagan has found his niche.

The success of Flanagan’s faithful adaptation of Stephen King’s book Doctor Sleep, a sequel to Stephen King’s novel The Shining, published in 1980, brought his name to a wider audience.

Now available. Nearly three hours long, the film stars Ewan McGregor as the adult Dan Torrance in the original story, trying to protect a girl with powers similar to his own from a cult. You’ve done a great job with other literary adaptations, and the stories in King’s work are poorly adapted, so what other Stephen King stories does Flanagan have to work with?

needful Things was filmed in 1993 and are a story that fits Flanagan’s style. In the story, Leland Gaunt moves to Castle Rock, Maine, and opens a store called Needful Things.

In his shop, townspeople can find everything they want at incredibly low prices.

Catch? When Leland sells something to someone, he expects the customer to play a little “prank” on someone in town.

Sheriff Alan Pangborn smells rats when Gaunt enters. When the townsfolk of Castle Rock begin to escalate their feuds against each other, he’s quickly right.

At the heart of the story is the evil people do and the greed that drives them to do so, throwing a supernatural side into his Netflix show.

Cell

In another previously adapted story, John Cusack and Samuel L.

Jackson. On the surface, it’s a zombie-style apocalypse following Clay Liddell (Cusack) as a strange cell phone signal is broadcast at least across the country, turning everyone who hears it into a violent, animalistic monster.

This book is a tense, character-driven, and often downright frightening tale of human evolution and nature. However, the 2016 film is a generic, emotionless and boring zombie apocalypse. Flanagan has managed to do a great adaptation of Cell that focuses on the characters rather than the background of the apocalypse.

If It Bleeds

The unpublished short story If It Bleeds was published as a four-part anthology in the 2020 book of the same name. The story is led by a recurring King character, Holly Gibney.

Gibney is a detective with Finders Keepers who, after seeing footage of a school bombing on television, begins to suspect that the reporter at the scene is something supernatural.

Link to other King stories

This story is linked to other King stories: Mr. Mercedes, Finders Keepers, End of Watch, and The Outsider. The TV series Mr. Mercedes covers the events of this book as well as Finders Keepers and End of Watch. A miniseries about the outsider has already been released.

It’s time for an adaptation of If It Bleeds. Flanagan is the perfect person to base a miniseries on.
