The 44th annual Run-Up, powered by the Challenged Athletes Foundation and presented by Turkish Airlines, was held today at the Empire State Building (ESB) (CAF). The renowned 86th Floor Observatory of the building served as the finish line for 374 runners from around the globe as they raced up the 1,576 stairs.
Congratulations to everyone who attended the “World’s Most Famous Building” to take part in the run-up to it remarked Jean-Yves Ghazi, head of the observatory of the Empire State Building.
Shari Klarfeld of Plainview, New York, and Maria Elisa La Pez Pimentel of Mexico came in second and third, respectively, in the Women’s Elite heat. Cindy Harris of Indianapolis, Indiana took first place with a time of 13:56. This was Harris’ sixth victory and 24th Run-Up. She improved on her 14:01 from 2021.
Nev Schulman, host of “Catfish,” participated in this year’s Celebrity heat. Commercial real estate agents, tenants of the Empire State Building, and members of the media competed in additional heats of the race.
The ESBRU’s official charity partner, the Encouraged Participants Foundation, held a special heat for CAF supporters and challenged athletes to collect money for the inclusion of physically challenged individuals in sports. A veteran of the Iraq War with an amputated arm and a CAF athlete, Anthony Smith, completed the race in 56:05.
Turkish Airlines, the nation’s flag carrier and the airline that flies to most nations and worldwide locations overall, served as the Run-presenting Up’s sponsor once again this year. The largest running event management business in the New York Metropolitan area, NYCRUNS, organized the event.
In honor of the 44th annual Run-Up, the Empire State Building’s renowned tower lights shone red and white.
