New Final Fantasy 7 Game Officially Announced By Square Enix

More Final Fantasy 7 Remake games are on the way, according to Square Enix, which announced additional projects for the franchise. As of this posting, there are currently two confirmed FF7 Remake projects in production, excluding the live service competitive FF7: The First Soldier, which will continue to get patches shortly.

Square Enix has announced FF7: Ever Crisis last year, a mobile RPG based on a shortened version of the classic FF7 plot. There will be content from Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus,  Final Fantasy 7, and the first-ever English adaptation of Before Crisis included in this new game. Although it is presently in production, there has been no indication of an official rollout date or platforms for the successor to FF7 Remake, which fans are going crazy for.

Square Enix seems to be working on new FF7 material. FF7 Remake Project Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura and FF7 Director Yoshinori Kitase took to Twitter today to honor the 25th anniversary of the game’s release. The two express their gratitude to the FF7 community in their statement, but arguably the most exciting part of the announcement is the promise of future games.

Nomura said that further FF7 projects have begun development shortly after the release of the FF7 Remake.

The post reads-

“This year marks the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII It also marks the 35th anniversary of the final fantasy series itself which means that Final Fantasy seven was born in the 10th year of that 35 years long history.”
Personally, I had always thought of Final Fantasy VII as a recent game but it has actually now become one of the games from the early series even so we are on the last year when it was voted as the third most popular game ever by gamers in a TV poll that we could achieve something like that is very much thanks to all support we have had from our fans over the long years thank you so much”.
“Final Fantasy VII has emerged as the latest game in the series once again with titles like Final Fantasy VII remake in Final Fantasy VII the first soldier and you can look forward to evening more exciting new developments in future.”

There’s a lot of speculation among fans about what these unannounced projects may be. Given what we know about Square Enix President Takeshi Nomura’s plans to introduce NFTs into games, it’s reasonable to assume that one of the unidentified projects Nomura is alluding to is FF7 NFTs. A Crisis Core remastered or remake is also plausible, given Zack’s increased interest in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Ever Crisis’s truncated version of Before Crisis might portend a complete remake of Before Crisis, particularly given that the contents of the game are addressed in FF7 Remake.

A resounding success for Square Enix, Final Fantasy 7 Remake has opened the front door for a slew of prequels and spin-off projects. I believe that the aforementioned Final Fantasy VII Remake project might go beyond the remake series since there is a wealth of material in the FF7 mythos that can be exploited for narrative.
