Although Game of Thrones is no longer on air, the fantasy series on which it is centered, A Song of Ice and Fire, is still ongoing. Now the question remains is when will RR Martin’s sixth installment ‘The Winds of Winter’ will be released? Martin had wanted to complete all seven volumes in his planned series prior to the HBO adaptation of his best-selling novels drawing to an end. Obviously, it did not happen, as Game of Thrones concluded in 2019, and bibliophiles have been longing for the last novel since 2011.
Following the conclusion of HBO’s Game of Thrones, Martin is now blessed with more leisure to write without feeling obligated to keep up with the series, as well as a bit more pressure to provide what many think would be a more satisfactory finale. The Game of Thrones finale received mixed reviews but the series has long taken a nosedive since it shied away from RR Martin’s book. so there’s a lot of excitement for what he has in store for The Winds of Winter.
Winds of Winter Release Date
According to internal sources, the newest addition to the best-selling franchise is slated to release on November 13, 2023.
George provided fans a solid cause for the deferral of The Winds of Winter’s release date in April 2021. He said on his blog that finalizing the e-book he’d been working on for so long is going to take him longer than usual.
In 2019, he also fell off the radar by allowing his supporters to imprison him on White Island if he doesn’t deliver The Winds of Winter by July 2020.

If RR Martin’s suggestions are anything to go by we now know that the characters who have succumbed to their fate will not share the same fate in the novels. This might mean that notable ones like Stannis Baratheon, Mance Rayder, or even Catelyn Stark, who now appears as Lady Stoneheart in the novels but hasn’t been revived on the show, will spring up in The Winds of Winter or perhaps play a crucial role in the end storyline.
Winds of Winter Synopsis
The preceding book in the series, A Dance with Dragons, didn’t cover as much ground as Martin had hoped, with at least one major fight scene and multiple character arcs left unanswered. Martin plans to conclude these cliffhangers in the infancy of the book saying
“I’m going to open with the two big battles that I was building up to, the battle in the ice and the battle at Meereen—the battle of Slaver’s Bay. And then take it from there.”
The author said in March 2012 that the final two volumes will carry readers north than all of the other previous ones.
“What lies really north in my books—we haven’t explored that yet, but we will in the last two books.” He continued “you’re definitely going to see more of the Others”
