We can confirm that award nominee Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm) has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will have a significant role in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3.
The anticipated threequel, starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Sylvester Stallone, Karen Gillan, Elizabeth Debicki, Will Poulter, and Chuk Iwuji, recently concluded filming. Daniela Melchior, the breakout star of The Suicide Squad, has also joined the cast, as we reported last week.
Recently, director James Gunn suggested the presence of a “unannounced actor” in the film. We realise that person isn’t Bakalova. Her role is a closely guarded secret. Gunn just tweeted in response to our story that Bakalova is “amazing” in the project:
While the premise of the superhero film has remained a mystery, previous chapters have featured half-human, half-alien Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord (Pratt), and his gang of intergalactic criminals as they fought off different dangers to their cosmos. Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy will conclude with Vol. 3.
In November of 2021, filming on the Marvel film began. Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith are the executive producers. Co-producers are David J. Grant and Lars P. Winther.
The first two films in the franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide. The release date for Vol. 3 is set for May 5, 2023.
The Honeymoon, on which she is also a producer, and A24’s Bodies Bodies Bodies, which received positive reviews at SXSW, are two upcoming projects. Judd Apatow’s pandemic film The Bubble, as well as Judd Apatow’s prior films Last Call, Transgression, and The Father, are among her previous credits.
CAA, Brookside Artist Management, and Insight Management & Production are among Bakalova’s management companies.
