Members of the Gotham Knights Gaming Community Have Reactions to the Game’s User Interface

‘Gotham Knights’ may have the worst UI of a generation

Gotham Knights debuted this week to mediocre/poor reviews, with a Metascore of 69, making it one of the worst-rated major games of 2022. One, this side of Saint’s Row and the end of Babylon’s reboot.

Reviewers cite lackluster performance that the game may struggle to even hit 30 fps on next-gen consoles or PC and overly shattered repetitive structures. One thing stands out, at least from an outside perspective.

Honestly, this is one of the worst UIs of his in any game I’ve ever seen.

I’m not exactly sure what happened to Gotham Knights’ UI, but it feels like something for a mobile game rather than a full console and PC release.

The font is large and hard to read. Icons are uninspired or whimsical. There are often gaps. The game is strange even if there is a line break. I haven’t seen anything that repels quickly.

Game UI

UI is rarely talked about in games, but it’s an important part of all games. Games like The Last of Us are known for very minimalistic user interfaces, while others like MMOs have to make trade-offs between a lot of information and its consistency. . One of my favorite UIs of his these days is Amazon’s New World. This gracefully handles the burden of providing MMO information.

This game is the exact opposite of it in every way, trying to balance hoarding gear, smashing gear, and unlocking skill trees in the world’s ugliest menu. In actual gameplay, there isn’t much UI, so it’s not that bad.

But once in those menus, it tries to do everything.

Poor UI is part of a conspiracy theory that Gotham Knights was actually a mobile game and converted to a console/PC version instead. Players cite a mobile-like interface, the inability of the game to last 30 frames on each platform, and a crushing nature that seems mobile-friendly.

Will I buy it?

It’s bad, but I wouldn’t buy it. Sure, games can change direction, but a left turn from a mobile offering to AAA console and PC versions? I doubt it.

What I think has happened here is that the game was originally intended to be more of a live service than it is, but Marvel’s Avengers is a cautionary tale, so they decided to go completely in that direction.

This is why you see so many tricky items but no actual microtransactions associated with these systems.

And I think the UI is just… bad. I don’t think it was designed and ported for mobile. I could be wrong, but it’s just that it’s highly unlikely, no matter what it looks like. But don’t underestimate how one shot like this one can knock someone out of the game entirely. I know this happened to me the first time I saw it.
