Old School RuneScape or RuneScape 3

Which MMO is more worth your time?

There are two RuneScape games currently on the market, Old School RuneScape and RuneScape 3. Both are free, sort of. They are also made by the same company. If you have a RuneScape membership, then you have a membership to both games. It’s very convienent. However, you also have the choice of playing two RuneScape games. So which one do you choose?

Well, that is where this article comes in. We will go over which game is worth more of your time. Both of these games can make time fly by. Of course, if you have all the time in the world, then you can try playing both like crazy. Most people don’t have that luxury though. This article will explain things like gameplay and content and how to earn OSRS gold or RS3 gold.

So without further ado, let’s compare Old School RuneScape and RuneScape 3.

Which Game Looks Better?

If you are someone who is into graphics as well as gameplay, you might not like either of these games. Both games aren’t the prettiest by any means, both games look very old. Old School RuneScape looks that way on purpose to be fair.

RuneScape 3 has slightly better graphics and looks more similar to World of Warcraft. However, the view of the game is more overhead. Compared to Old School RuneScape, RuneScape 3 has a brighter colored pallet. Because both games aren’t very demanding, most players should be able to play them on their PC.

Free Content and Paid Content

Old School RuneScape and RuneScape 3 both have content that is restricted to free players. To experience everything both games have to offer, you will need to be a member, which has a monthly cost.

Old School RuneScape free players will only have access to a portion of the map and a limited amount of quests and skills. However, there is still a lot of fun to be had. Completing all the quests will take time and is a great introduction to the game. After many hours, you can decide if you want to continue by buying a membership. Old School RuneScape members can also make more OSRS GP because of the members’ only skills and areas.

RuneScape 3 is also free-to-play, but it isn’t updated as much compared to the paid version. There is still plenty of skills to level up which can take hundreds of hours. However, more noticeable updates are only for paid members.

You can try both games, but you will probably get more out of Old School RuneScape if you are free-to-play. However, if you pay a membership then both games will have years of worth of content. So if you are willing to spend money, then both games will have so much content that you will have endless things to keep you coming back.

Old School Combat or Modern Combat?

This is where the two games have big differences. If you play an MMO for the combat, then this can make or break what game you want to play.

Old School RuneScape is more about pointing and clicking. It is very simple and easy. For the most part. Combat in Old School RuneScape is about using either ranged, melee, or magic. To some, it is not very engaging as you will be using the same attacks and spells for the most part. It can be hard to master, especially with difficult bosses. But you will mostly just be using your mouse to do all the clicking.

RuneScape 3 has more traditional MMO-style combat, like World of Warcraft. You will have plenty of spells and skills. You will need to use a rotation to keep your damage up. Therefore RuneScape 3’s combat is a lot more engaging, but it could also be a bit harder for newcomers. Bosses in RuneScape 3 are more modern and have harder mechanics to learn, compared to Old School RuneScape.

Which Game Is More Beginner Friendly?

If you are new to MMOs, RPGs, or just RuneScape in general, you might want to pick up the one that is more beginner friendly. Both games have their pros and cons.

Old School RuneScape is much simpler to learn, but it is very grindy. As we discussed earlier, the combat is straightforward but will take time to master. However, leveling up your skills and grinding for items and OSRS gold can be a real pain for a new player that is just starting. Old School RuneScape is targeted toward more hardcore players, but that is subjective.

RuneScape 3 on the other hand is more focused on the casual experience. Skills are easier to level and don’t require as much time. On the flip side, the combat mechanics can take some getting used to as you will be more engaged and it is more fast-paced. Reaching the endgame is reasonable for most players and doesn’t take months or years as Old School RuneScape does.

Conclusion

So, which one of these games is more worth your time? Well, based on what has been explained above, it will depend on what you are looking for. Old School RuneScape and RuneScape 3 are both worth your time, but they have different targeted audiences. Are you more of a fan of World of Warcraft or Guild Wars? Then RuneScape 3 is probably the game you will resonate with the most. Do you remember Ultima Online? If you do and liked it, then Old School RuneScape is probably more for you. Both games are great and will require a lot of grinding for OSRS gold and leveling skills.
